Thanksgiving is a time for reconciliation, so let's start with some sympathy for our liberal media friends. It's been a tough 24 hours for them. Yesterday, articles appeareared in the New York Times and LA Times reporting the dramatically improved security situation in Iraq.
Today brings another blow, as Thomas Friedman suggests that beyond the military successes, there might be an informal kind of political accomodation going on in Iraq that he refers to as an "ATM peace." That would be a real setback for the MSM, given its fall-back position that "there might be military progress but there's been no improvement on the political front."
But the MSM are a resilient bunch, and we're already seeing the outlines of their plan to deal with the current unpleasantness. Call it "yeah-butting."
First, Scott McClellan's excerpt from a book months away from publication is manna for an MSM starving for bad news. We'll see how much mileage the "Bush lied, people died" crowd can wring from it.
Then, as David Shuster and Mika Brzezinski demonstrated on today's "Morning Joe," there's no good-news Iraqi lemon they can't press into bad-news lemondade.

Tough times for the MSM on Iraq. Ping to Today show list.
Is Perky Katie Couric about to trot out her black dress and crockodile tears again? NOT about the writer’s strike that could impact her crappy news show, but about the fact that she has, once again, been proven to be so wrong!!
(BTW, it doesn’t matter if she has writers or not . . . . . . . she’s still going to be an anti-American leftist regardless who writes the words she reads on the TelePrompter! And, she’s STILL going to be wrong!)
Michael Ware of CNN finally admitted progress, BUT his “BUT” sentences kept coming... he stated something like “BUT, Baghdad is still not as safe than any city in the U.S.” (or something like that)... and also “BUT, 33 people were killed in Baghdad this week - can you imagine 33 people killed in NYC, LA, etc.”
Well, Michael, at least the Baghdad homicide rate is now in par with Philadelphia’s!!!
"Yeah...But", sounds like a possible title for a "news" show.
This time, Jacobs was happy to oblige.
JACOBS: The precept and the context for going to war were completely fallacious . . .
Did these two illiterates really say "precept" and not "pretext"?
I believe so. Check the video.
I can’t play videos here at work. That’s why I was hoping you knew what was said.
I tried hard to provide an accurate transcript.
I didn’t mean to suggest you had transcribed it incorrrectly. I was simply marvelling at their ignorance.
“Is Perky Katie Couric about to trot out her black dress and crockodile tears again?”
No, Lara Logan is. Remember her, she’s CBS’s virulently anti-American (South African) chief foreign affairs mouthpiece who (pre-surge) took pride in labelling Iraq everything negative she could. I hope she’s goes back to Capetown asap.
She said “precept.” Then he sort fumbles with it...he says “pretep”, then precept, then adds “context.”
I don’t understand how anyone takes David Shuster seriously, given is manic reporting that Rove would be indicted any second now....or take Mika ‘I couldn’t get into college without my last name’ Bresinski (she basically admitted this on air a month or so ago).
Finally, that clown ‘Willie’....his bio at MSNBC states he ‘left a lucrative liquor sales position to join MSNBC’ or words to that effect.
All this said, sometimes I’m force to flip the channel from Fox and Friends because I can’t take the shear nonsense, and ridiculous interruptions whenever a tangent thought passes through Brian Kilmeade’s pea brain.
This morning is a GREAT example of what I”m talking about. They had an author on that had written about Ford and the Warren Commission, using Ford’s own words. By the time he got around to saying ‘Gerald Ford believed there were TWO (2) GUNMEN AT DEALY PLAZE...’ Kilmeades nonsense brought them up against a freakin ‘hard break’.
The producer at Fox and Friends needs to excercise more control over that idiot in short.
"Pretext" connotes "excuse."
Another participant in the “Yeah but” parade.
I think they wanted pretext. Bush lied, people died. All about oil. etc. WMD was a false pretext used to fool ppl into a rush to war. That’s the template.
Good news =tough times for the ratmedia, but a great opportunity to reestablish their Bush hating creds.
On the morning after 9/11 Bill Clinton made a royal appearance to bite his lip at the police tape line and Killmeade ( who was the reporter on the scene) intercepted him asking, “Pres Clinton, don’t you bear some responsibility for this (pointing to the still smoking and flaming ruins)?” <— or something close to that. I cheered!
No one in all the journalistic world has EVER come close to asking such a significant, truthful question of Clinton. As someone who was in the military during most of Clinton’s term of office, I know that 9/11 is Clinton’s true legacy. Not the rapes, the blue dress, or the lying. 3,000 Americans died due to his ineptness.
Sorry, Kilmeade riding that horse seven years later, while screwing up what is in fact ‘breaking news’ on a daily basis irritates the hell out of me.
I’m sure he’s a nice guy...but I fail to see how every single ‘passing thought’ that comes into his pea brain needs to be shared, over the top of the people brought onto the show to talk about whats in ‘their brain’.
As an interviewer, Kilmeade makes a great tuna salad.....(sorry, tuna is on my mind this morning....hope you ‘get it’)
