New Year's Day 1916 was rough for Colorado residents looking for a little hair of the dog. On that Saturday, the state stopped all liquor sales, predating Prohibition by 4 years. Today, Colo-rado once again leads the nation in its attitude toward alcohol -- but now, the mandate seems to be "drink till you drop." In our second ranking of urban inebriation, Aurora comes in 82nd, Colorado Springs finishes 98th, and, once again, Denver is Most Dangerously Drunk.

Another place I used to live had a LOT of deer that lived in the town park.
The park also had a row of houses along one boundary.
The thought occurred to me that if one lived in one of those houses, one ought to own a set of night-vision goggles, a crossbow and a freezer.

Hands down no doubt about it. The drunkest (and stonedest) city in the United States is Chapel Hill, NC.

Well, we are number 1 in something, at least!Oh, I don't know - you might be pretty high up on a list for Transmillenial Spiritual Insanity Centers... if anyone kept such a list.

Colorado Springs has Fort Carson.

I used to live in Sea Bright New Jersey (pop 700) .... a small ismus of land with just a 2 lane highway .... not a place in town so wide that you couldn't throw a baseball from ocean to river ... Highest number of DUI arrests in the state ... not per capita ... the highest number every year
the cops were criminal

The problem in Denver are the judges who let drunks offend half-a-dozen times with NO JAIL TIME!!!
I attribute this to lawyers who know which judges to bring their clients cases to.(other drunks!)

It surprises me that Colorado Springs rates so highly.
Lots of military personnel there. Nuff said.

It surprises me that Colorado Springs rates so highly. I have heard from people that the city has a strong strain of Christian conservative influence. One would assume that this group would be very tee-totalling and advocate that stance in public life too.
It's the Catholics, man! (hic...) (I brew my OWN beer and mead thank you very much)

I live in the Springs. I don’t think we have any higher rate of “drunk driving” than anywhere else in the US.
Although, at Halloween week, they did random stops and in our area they arrested 560 or so people for DUI.... so, who knows?
I stay home and drink my stuff. hahaha.

One would assume that this group would be very tee-totalling and advocate that stance in public life too. Haven't teetotalers traditionally been Methodist or Baptist? How closely related are Evangelicals to the old Prohibitionist denominations?
Plus CO Springs is a big military town, too.
