Oh boy, calling a female worker “Spanky” would invite a whole different kind of trouble...not to mention, “Porky.”
The “drive by” media strikes again!!!!
In 1990, the ABC newsmagazine 20/20 aired a segment purporting to be an interview with Buckwheat, now a downtrodden minimum wage grocery bagger in Arizona. However, the interview was actually with a man named Bill English, who had made a career of claiming to be the adult Buckwheat. By the next week, 20/20 had learned of their error (George “Spanky” McFarland personally contacted the media following the broadcast), that the true Buckwheat had been dead for 10 years, and admitted their mistake on-air. Fallout from this incident included the resignation of a 20/20 producer, and a negligence lawsuit filed by the son of William Thomas.

Must be more “upscale”, but I didn’t think there was anything particularly desirable on that side of the Mississippi below the city. I remember taking a 5-hour boat ride from the city down to the swamps through the canals. It was sad and depressing, to say the least.
Shoulda just stuck to the old standbys of “Sugartits” and “Numbnuts.”
We also have the 85th district down there, based in Gretna. It was term limited this time, but we held it with ease, no Democrats bothered to run.
I don’t call people by such terms, but I really think Dartez got a bum rap here. I think that “Buckwheat” was a term of endearment for her.
I always liked Buckwheat.
I’m not going to look a gift Buckwheat in the mouth, since the verbal gaffe put us a seat closer to majority control there. If they can nail us on bullcrap as “macaca”, we can get them on similar “mistakes.”
Ouch!
Always nice to see a ‘rat lose their job. I just hope it wasn’t over the “Buckwheat” comment.
Oh, that was a good one. Every time the guy sneezed the horse went after him.
If "Buckwheat" is a term of endearment, does she use it with all elderly black women she knows? All elderly women? Or just all black women?
Such "terms of endearment" do not fly with me. I have a series of names; I am "Rose," or "Rose in RoseBear," or "Ms. Rose," or even "Mrs. Bear." "Buckwheat" is not acceptable.
Rose In RoseBear, using my husband's account.

Blast from the Past. From last year, I must have missed this going through. Just adding to the catalog, not sending a general distribution. |
