The Tennessee Minutemen volunteer to patrol the border. Border Patrol agents are paid to do it.
Roger Maier is a border patrolman.
He said, Anti-terror is the primary mission, but the inspection process does turn up violations, drugs, illegal immigration, fugitives.
Customs agents enforce immigration law at the ports of entry.
Everyday about 100,000 people cross from Mexico to El Paso, Texas by car or foot.
Every week immigration officials catch about 100 people that try to deceive them and cross illegally.
To catch those people, officers use drug sniffing dogs.
...Border Patrol and Minutemen search vehicles.
Maier said, We had an officer hear screaming in the area. Basically this woman was being roasted alive because she was so close to the engine compartment and was being burned while the car was moving.
Why do illegal immigrants risk death to cross the border?
Poor, I believe they are poor here. Theres a lot of poverty. There are no jobs.
A woman named Maria crossed into the U.S. illegally. She spoke with News 2 and shared her side of the story.
She said, We are illegals to them, that were coming intothis country illegally. We tried to pass through a canal. I dont know where because I dont know the area.
Just across the border you can see the living conditions.
Studies show one of the biggest reasons for illegal immigration is money.
Maria, like so many others, risked her life and snuck into the United States with little more than hope.
She said, We want to work, achieve goals, take our children out and help other people. I think were doing something right.
The international border is located in the middle of the Rio Grande River.
Partsof the river are completely dried up. There are footprints in the sand where people cross from Mexico into the U.S.
Maria told News 2 how she came to the United States.
She said, It was something so incredible. Because they told me there were cameras. I didnt see it. I was just following. In that moment it was walk. We passed very quickly. I think it was a matter of 15 minutes, something short, but with adrenaline that they not see us. We arrived and were already on the other side.
Maria lives in an unmarked and inconspicuous building.
Itsa shelter for migrants and refugees. Many hear about it through word of mouth, and they can get shelter and food.
They stay a few weeks before moving to other parts of the country.
Maria said, We suffer so much, when we finally manage to get here, it was worth it.
Shelter worker Simon Chandler said, No human being is illegal. If someone comes to the door, is hungry and needs a place to stay, our first reaction is to take them in. Not to check papers, and thats not our responsibility. Thats the responsibility of the border patrol.
Maria fought to get into the U.S.in hopes of a brighter future for her family.
She said, I think that if we truly want something, we have to fight for what we want and I want to get ahead.
Bob Brown fights to keep people like her out of the U.S. in hopes of a brighter future for his.
He said, Its something I have to do for my family, grandchildren, and their children.
Illegal immigration is a complex issue.
The Border Patrol, Minutemen, shelter, and customs agents said theyre doing the best they can with the resources they have.
That was such a poorly written article, no wonder “Staff writer” took credit for it.
I don't care about their hopes and dreams. They can screw off. I didn't feel like this ten years ago. But a trickle turned into a flood. Illegal immigrants are no longer interesting or cute. They need to be kept out. The USA is not their country but this awful woman acts as if it is. I despise that attitude of entitlement to just come here and live here. The crappy place she was born in has laws and so do we. Unfortunately we have lots of really awful, some evil, leaders who don't enforce our immigration laws
That's about the stupidest remark I can see and it is posted all the time. When you say you would do the same you are justifying illegals from Mexico crashing our border
A much better way of looking at is to say-
It is their job to get in here
It is our job to keep them out
Apparently you did not read most of my posts.
I don’t want to read yr other posts. I will never say to anyone that I would sneak into America if I were a Mexican. I want no level of understanding about their plight or how poor they are. All I know is I want to keep out them and all other illegal aliens
My sympathy and understanding for Mexican went out the window ten years ago when this became not immigration but an invasion of indigenous & semi-indigenous Mexicans who are driven north by their cynical Spanish masters
If you don't want to read my posts and then you want to argue with me, you are being disingenuous. If you decide to comment on what I said and not take something out of context, I might decide to respond. Otherwise, what's the point of talking to someone who doesn't know what I said?
We had welfare programs expanded since the Great Society of LBJ. We had lots of welfare freebies in the 70’s, 80s but not this huge invasion from Mexico and points South. So build a wall, be strict with employers, welfare “freebies” aren’t the only factor
what a breath of fresh air that article was. After hearing about Seattle wanting to make Thanksgiving a day of mourning.
Well Thursday we will eat... whether we have a mournful meal of a celebratory meal will depend on your politics.
Strange.
Did any of the anti-s watch Family Guy tonight? LOL!
on the west coast, haven’t seen it yet.
It sounds like a good idea to me. I really don’t understand any of it. It is, like you said, insane.
I HAVE noticed that the news media has dropped the illegal part of “illegal immigrant” and is calling them migrants or immigrants
WHICH THEY ARE NOT!
She’s in the U.S., for nine years, but has spent thousands of dollars and it could all be for naught if her job ends—which is a distinct possibility. She said she would have to return to SA, wait one year, then reapply. If she gets sent back though, she said she will no longer try—she can’t afford to do so any more.
You are right--they are undocumented Americans /sarc.
caught family guy after reading your post. what a hoot.
Hello beaversmom,
Check your Freepmail; I’ve given you the facts about the SA guys
employed by my relatives there.
Cheers,
VOA
