Mexican president decries 'growing harassment' of migrants in U.S.

MEXICO CITY

President Felipe Calderon decried Wednesday what he called "the growing harassment" of Mexicans in the United States and said his government will work to counter it by funding a media campaign to show migrant success stories.

Mexican officials have expressed concern over a recent wave of immigration raids and a U.S. political climate perceived as anti-migrant. Calderon said U.S. presidential candidates were using migrants as "symbolic hostages" on the immigration issue.

"I am especially worried about the growing harassment and frank persecution of Mexicans in the United States in recent days," Calderon said at a meeting of the Mexican government's migrant assistance agency.

He called on leading U.S. presidential candidates to "stop holding Mexicans in their country as symbolic hostages in their speeches and (campaign) strategies." He was apparently referring to the hard line some candidates have taken on the immigration issue, and other candidates' unwillingness to take a clear stance in the debate.

To bolster the image of migrants in the U.S., the Mexican government will launch "direct media campaigns aimed at showing migrant success stories and raise awareness of the many contributions" migrants make to U.S. society, he said.

Calderon noted 6 million of the 11 million Mexican migrants in the United States are undocumented, and endorsed the creation of what he called the League Against Discrimination Against Mexicans in the United States.

Pablo Alonso Flores, a member of advisory council of the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, described the new anti-discrimination league as a group "run by Mexican-Americans, aimed mainly at defending our rights peacefully and respectfully, while not allowing media attacks on the integrity, roots and customs of Mexicans."

Calderon also endorsed a project to expand shelters for deported migrants in Mexican border cities.

Legal Aliens are screened for contagious diseases, Illegal Aliens are not. Many Illegal Aliens work in the food industry, yet the unions resist mandatory screenings for food workers.
Malaria, Polio, Dengue, Leprosy, Hepatitis A-E, Tuberculosis, Chagas Disease, HIV, E-coli, The Guinea Worm, Schistosomiasis, Whooping cough, Cysticercosis, and Morgellon’s.

I’d like to see Duncan Hunter introduce a bill to mandate screening of all food workers. I’ve gotten sick so many times while eating out that I feel like a Canary in a coal mine. My sister and a friend got Hepatitis in unrelated instances.

Introducing such a bill would surely make it hard for the MSM to Ignore you and I can’t think of one person that would not be for this.

Yeah, follow the money. Seems like $20 billion, with a B, is a good reason for Mexico to continue sending it’s people north.

“Because that would mean dismantling their entire system of institutional graft and corruption, which is the bread and butter of the ruling white Spanish elite, and we couldn't’t have that.”

You are one of the few who have identified the root problem. The mainstream press certainly talk about this.

The fact is, the ruling elites in Mexico have long utilized the U.S. as a relief valve for the young, restless, and ambitious of their country who as you inferred are primarily Indian ethnicity. Of a population of about 100M, about one of ten, perhaps one of eight Mexicans are in the U.S. illegally. If we should shut down our border and send many of these people home, maybe they would look inward (within their own country) for solutions to their plight, and throw out the leeches and so called elites who have bled their country dry and the general population’s expense.

Since approximately 54.5% of the Mexican migrants in the United States have demonstrated their lack of respect for this country or the rule of law, I will have a great deal of difficuly believing that "the integrity, roots and customs of Mexicans" can successfully be defended by any media campaign.

I don’t know what your legal options are, but I can tell you’re about as upset about things as I would be. I have very little patience along these lines and I would be boiling by now.

I just don’t want to see you do something that will get you in trouble, make you look like the bad guy.

Make sure whatever you do, they remain the focus of the authorities.

I wish you good luck with this. I feel for you and you family.

Just a thought:
Would the 'fairness doctrine' give us equal time?

In my area we have Code Enforcement. I would think you would too. Block walls over 3 feet high need a permit. 6 foot walls on the side and back yard are typical but the front yard can not be over 3 feet without getting a waiver from your neighbors. If they are retaining walls, they need engineering.

Dear Pres:

I recommend you advertize in all the major newspapers in the US and the spanish language ones for all people in the US to return home and that your government will provide jobs, housing, medical care and education to the returnees.

I’m afraid your post misrepresents what our President promised Mexico. W. promised them no border fence, no border patrol, instant free medical care and education for their children, foodstamps, SSI, jobs, amnesty........

Senor Calderon:

I'm glad you got elected. The other guy was a pendejo. But you gotta remember something: You're the President of Mexico.

These guys are leaving Mexico and entering these United States illegally for a very good reason: Mexico is a corrupt kakistocracy. Your job is to clean it up. If you don't want your citizens being harassed, keep 'em in Mexico. Make Mexico a good place to be, not a good place to be from.

Thanks much,

-A. Bustard
