America's (10) Most Murderous Cities
Forbes ^ | 8 November 2007 | David M. Ewalt

...Of course, television doesn't always tell the whole story. The average American is 36 times more likely to die from heart disease than be murdered, six times more likely to die in an accident and four times more likely to die from Alzheimer's disease, according to data compiled by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics.

But homicide does result in many thousands of deaths every year. And a comparison of the 72 American cities with a population over 250,000, using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting Program, reveals that some places are definitely more murderous...

The ten most murderous cities are discussed in detail but for the record they are:

Let's give it up for liberals and the Great Society! woo hoo.

And do they recognize policy failures and or that what they are doing is bad?....no! They just think that they haven't done enough of it yet!

I demand a recount !!! New Orleans should be number one.

We insist on allowing all our displaced citizens to have their right to be counted.

After all, Houston says the 1/4 of all their homicides involved former denizens of New Orleans.

I see that Gary, Indiana and Camden, New Jersey are no longer on the list. Otherwise, no surprises here.

An old joke, but still one of the ten best (and so relevant):

Q: What goes 'Clip-clop...clip-clop...BANG!...clip-clop...clip-clop...BANG!'?

A: an Amish drive-by shooting.

Interesting that most, if not all, of these cities are enclaves run by liberal Democrats.

Surprisingly, the country's biggest cities aren't usually the most dangerous.

Ah... maybe because most of the people have been killed off by now... ?

Wow at 5.7% that is over 170,000 deaths in 2006.

That's 5.7 per 100,000, not 5.7 per 100. Slight difference.

Only because the name hasn't been taken off the map yet. Anybody living there except the guy who was supposed to turn off the lights?

These top 10 murder cities accounted for approximately 1973 murders/negligent homicides in 2006. This death toll equals about 1/2 of the total death toll to date for American troops in Iraq for the entire war.

Where is the outrage? Where are all of the protesters? The anti-war crowd has chosen the death toll in Iraq as the foundation of their protest. If they are so concerned about the loss of American lives, why aren't they doing something about the murder rate right here in America?

They don't give a crap about our troops or their families. All they really care about is hating America and protesting our actions abroad. If they truly cared about the loss of American lives, they would do something productive to reduce the number of murders, car crash fatalities and even incidental fatalities right here at home, each of which exceed the number of war dead annually.

Do you see them doing anything productive? I didn't think so!

"I see that Gary, Indiana and Camden, New Jersey are no longer on the list. Otherwise, no surprises here."

"And a comparison of the 72 American cities with a population over 250,000" -- Gary only has 98k and Camden has 79k, both on a long population slide.

I don't live far from Gary, IN, which, IIRC, was the most murderous city, per capita, in America just a few years ago. Now, it's off the chart.

Sorry, this doesn't pass the smell test.

Bravo Sierra.
