Police to map Amish communities

Lancaster, PA - Civil rights advocates criticized plans by the Police Department to map the county's Amish communities, calling it racial profiling.

The LCPD's counterterrorism bureau plans to identify Amish enclaves in order to determine which might be likely to become isolated and susceptible to "violent, ideologically based extremism," said Deputy Chief Michael P. Drowning on Thursday.

"We want to know where the Shakers, Quakers and Amish are so we can reach out to those communities," said Drowning, who heads the counterterrorism bureau.

Downing said the plan is still in its early stages, but the LCPD wants to work with a Amish partner and intends to have the data assembled by the University of Penssylvania Center for Risk and Economic Analysis.

Drowning testified about the plan before a U.S. Senate committee on Oct. 30.

In his testimony, Downing said his bureau wanted to "take a deeper look at the history, demographics, language, culture, ethnic breakdown, socioeconomic status and social interactions" of the county's Amish communities.

Don’t let the Shaking and Quaking throw you—you have heard of Whirling Dervishes, haven’t you?

to identify Amish enclaves in order to determine which might be likely to become isolated and susceptible to “violent, ideologically based extremism,”

The police are concerned that the Amish might become VICTIMS of ideological extremism. Amish are frequent targets of abuse and sometimes violence. Because they will not defend themselves and because they are isolated and without phones.

I know, I live here in south central PA. The thugs from phithadelphia know that they are easy marks. Or that the can be exploited for easy money. (drug transport)

I think the old order is on there way out of the area, maybe North Central PA or Indiana.

Don’t be so gloomy. After all it’s not that awful. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. So long Holly.

I was driving aimlessly through the west. I noticed all these podunk towns, usually a county seat. Business closed, trailers, cheap breakfast joints and lavish public buildings. Many looking like cheap concrete Greek Temples.

Where ever you see grand, huge building and projects, there liberty does not lay. Free working people do no work for decades on stupid symbolic edifices. Slaves and serfs do. They do it because they are ordered to, or the freedoms of free commerce are so restricted that selling ones selves to the powers that be, are the only way of providing.

You show me grand buildings and works, and I will show you an omnipotent state. The life of Borgia era peasants must of been miserable.

Everybody knows that the Swiss are really descendents of the original Templar knights. After becoming too big and successful they were persecuted by the Pope and French King, fleeing to the Alps in the 12th century.

They had to keep a low profile for several hundred years which could account for the legendary Swiss penchant for secrecy and neutrality.

You left out incest, adultery and scandal from the Borgia resume, but you make a compelling case for electing the Clintons in 2008--as long as the 21st Century Michelangelos and Da Vincis don't become their victims, along with the rest of us.

BTW, the cuckoo clock originated in the Black Forest, probably around Furtwangen, not in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, Switzerland is the wealthiest country in Europe by a considerable margin, and has a nominal per capita GDP ranking 6th behind Luxembourg, Norway, Qatar, Iceland and Ireland. Unemployment ranges from 1.8% to 3.3%.

Oh yeah. Profile the Amish but don’t profile the ministers of the cult of death and destruction. What the hell is wrong with our government?

The pay’s the same so what’s their incentive?

Besides, the Amish show that you don’t need government, so that in and of themselves is, ahem, suspicious.

LOL!!! This is satire right?? The wording of this post is eerily similar to this post:

Some of the wording is a little different, but basically it looks like Muslim was replaced with Amish...TFF..LOL!!

Says it all.

You need to watch this one. Stick with it at least until you get to the dancing girls.

This is outrageous!!! If this so-called Police Department has nothing else to do maybe they should be disbanded. It is suggested that they track sexual perverts and potential mass murderers in the areas surrounding the Amish community.
