Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. "Wear Red" Friday

You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Thank you for my birthday greetings and everyone else who sent them.

Today is Veteran's Day in the States and in Britain Remembrance Sunday. I am watching the service on TV at present. Yesterday I went to the Memorial Gardens in Ashford and some of the poppy crosses and one reef was already there, here are the photos I took.

The only cross on the actual War Memorial yesterday which was placed next to his name on the Memorial. Today now there will be many many more there and if they are still there next Saturday I will take a photograph of them.

I have recorded last night;s Festival of Remembrance from the Royal Albert Hall and am recording the service from the Cenotaph and the march pass currently.

Anyone who would like a copy of the DVD showing what we do for Remembrance Day in Britain please freep me your address and I will mail it to you later this week.

Well, Dan it is soooo good to see you. I hope you are well. On the home fromt it seems to be crrsis after crisis.. and I keep busy. But life is sweet & I am grateful for the challenges in life as I know they make me stronger. At times I already feel like Atlas & want to scream “emough”! We have all been there so most understand.

HAPPY VETERAN'S DAY 2007

President Bushes' Radio Address :
November 10, 2007

THE PRESIDENT: Good morning. This weekend, Americans mark two important dates in our Nation's history. On Saturday, we celebrate the 232nd birthday of the United States Marine Corps. And on Sunday, we celebrate Veterans Day -- and give thanks for all those who have worn the uniform of America's Armed Forces.

The Marine Corps was born in a Philadelphia tavern in 1775. Since then, the Marines have become one of the world's premier fighting forces. Their courage and valor in battle have earned them the respect of friend and foe alike. And today, a new generation of Marines is writing another chapter in that proud tradition. Young Marines are serving on the front lines in the war on terror in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world. As the Marines celebrate their birthday, we join them in recognizing what their sacrifice and service has meant for our freedom.

America owes a debt of gratitude to all those who have served in our Armed Forces. On Veterans Day, we remember those who have served in previous wars, those who are serving today, and those who did not live to become veterans.

Veterans Day also reminds us of our solemn responsibility to care for those who have fought our Nation's wars. Under my Administration, Federal spending for our veterans has increased by more than two-thirds. We have extended medical treatment to a million additional veterans, including hundreds of thousands returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. And we have expanded grants to help homeless veterans across the country.

These are the generous actions of a grateful Nation -- and to build on them, I nominated a good man to head our Department of Veterans Affairs: Doctor James Peake. Doctor Peake is an Army doctor, a retired lieutenant general, and a combat veteran who was wounded twice in Vietnam, and decorated for his valor. When confirmed by the Senate, Doctor Peake will take on an important task -- continuing my Administration's work to implement the recommendations of the bipartisan Dole-Shalala Commission on Wounded Warriors. These recommendations are vital to ensuring better care for our veterans, and Congress needs to confirm Doctor Peake so he can lead the way in this crucial effort.

Some of the Commission's recommendations require legislative action, such as updating the disability system to fully meet the needs of our wounded warriors. So my Administration has sent Congress a bill that would enact all the legislative steps recommended by the Commission. This is a good bill, our wounded warriors and their families are counting on it, and I urge Democrats and Republicans to come together to pass it as quickly as possible.

Congress can also meet its responsibility to our veterans by passing a clean Veterans Affairs appropriations bill. Unfortunately, Congressional leaders let the fiscal year end without passing this bill they know our veterans need. So I urged Congress to pass this bill by Veterans Day -- and they still have failed to send me this vital legislation. The time to act is running out. There are now just four days left on the legislative calendar before Congress leaves town for their Thanksgiving break. The best way members of Congress can give thanks to our veterans is to send me a clean bill that I can sign into law.

On this Veterans Day, I urge every American to take time to thank one of our Nation's 24 million veterans. They come from different generations and different backgrounds. But they are united by a commitment to honor, duty, and love of country that has kept America free. They continue to strengthen and inspire our Nation. And we will never forget what we owe them.

Just a quick note to let you know I am thinking of you & your son re:kitty. 17 years seems like a long time, but we never have enough time with precious pets AND precious people in our lives.

Going to try to scout out some of the celebrations tomorrow for Veteran's day. Not even sure what is going on in NE Ohio at this point

Had a wonderful day trip to my friend's mom's funeral. It was really in the boonies... The service, commitment, dinner all went well & the deceased was a spitfire of a woman, Miss Cleveland at one time & she sang with many of the big bands. She was a knockout in her youth & a beautiful woman as she aged

My friend & I decided to take a LONG ride back via very little county roads. We asked those at funeral what was around to see & they laughed & said the Football Hall of Fame in Canton(which of course everyone here knows about & it was a long way away).That isn't what I meant but they didn't understand. I look for natural things, interesting things along the way - NOT NECESSARILY BIG TOURISTY ATTRACTIONS.

Let me tell you what we found. a community (crossroads) called FUNK. that had a sweet dog that enticed me to come pet & play with him for a bit (while my dogs in the car were watching & jealous) Vistas that would take your breath away. A little Federal nature preserve tucked away on a little narrow road where we let the dogs romp a bit, a grave of a man from the revolutionary war (the only other one I have seen is at Mt Vernon....General George Washington). That was in an obscure rural area, kitty corner from a cemetery I had just browsed through, gorgeous lakes & river, wonderful estates in the middle of nowhere, pastoral farms with the fattest goats I have ever seen, Amish buggies galore, old barely standing barns that were huge & no doubt at one time stately & proud of the task they had to shelter animals, produce & perhaps had a couple or two in love along the way find fun in the straw, , . I could go on & on. and of course I took a LOT of pix along the way

Today right after church going to see movie Bella (anyone see it?)

then go to the Browns game "watch" at a fav club with huge screen & good eats.

Our Ohio State did not fare so well yesterday. Watched the last minutes over dinner. The little Italian Mom & pop place has TVs around & all eyes were on the screens. A scuffle between players ensued after final seconds. Not sure what that was about can guess a little name calling began the ordeal

About the greeting, someone said after all the birthday greetings that your birthday wasn’t until Dec.7? In case I should forget on Dec.7....you have one now! Several! Whenever it is, hope it was/is great~~LOL~~

We are both doing better. Barry called last night and he isn’t generally a big talker but he wanted to talk a lot last night and I was so glad he did let it out.

He told me that his cat was ‘his reason’ and he knew when he opened the door to come in that he waited for the “meow” greeting. He is sad but will be alright. He was talking about his dad too and said everything you love leaves you eventually! He said he understands better how much I must have missed “dad” so bad in those first months after.
