At first, the story line went like this: Sen. Hillary Clinton may have committed the ultimate political culinary sin -- not tipping the waitress.
But the story was wrong: NPR has retracted its initial report, a nasty little anecdote about iClnton meeting a working-mom waitress at the Maid-Rite eatery in Iowa over the summer, using her story in a speech -- and then stiffing her on the tip.
Now NPR has confirmed the tip with an editor's note: "Since this story aired, Hillary Clinton's campaign contacted NPR to say that the campaign paid Maid-Rite a bill for $100 for food for the day of Clinton's visit and left $57 in tip money. NPR contacted Maid-Rite manager Brad Crawford, who confirmed that a bill was paid and tip money was left.
"Crawford, who was not in the restaurant at the time, said that he believes a campaign staffer left the money with one of his employees, but "where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left." Neither Anita Esterday nor the manager on duty that day were available for comment as of noon Thursday.''

Lol! More likely, “Take the $100 or we kill you!”
Which Clinton stiffed the waitress and with what was she stiffed?
Funny, another news outley said the bill was $57 and a tip of $100 was left.
Hurry hurry mainstream media! Damage control. Hurry hurry NPR - quickly no time to waste. Correct the error! Now!
Hurry up and by the time I tune in the evening news it will be sooo yesterday, it will be old news and time to move on.
Do they say whether this was “found” before or after the dust up in the media?
She stiffed a waitress near my hometown a couple of years back and I believe she apologized....or someone did for her. Fool me once...shame on you...Fool me twice...Shame on Me!!
Not the first time hillary has been caught stiffing wait staff. This is an obvious cover-up.
Maybe it was in Sandy Burglar’s socks.
I think they found the tip in the box of records from the Rose Law firm.
So, apparently, NPR contacted NEITHER the Clinton campaign, nor the restaurant folks before airing the story.
Well the amount of the tip certainly raises some flags for me. This wouldn’t be the normal tip and it raises more questions than it resolves.
“where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left.”
Hillary was confused. /s
OK, let's assume that's correct. Can you say, "Political Tin Ear?" If your candidate is running for president, who in hell else would you want to leave a tip for the waitress?
If this was a Republican, they'd get more mileage out of this than "potatoe."
I guess if someone’s going to get stiffed, it’ll be Bill doing it...probably to a young intern!
My folks don’t tip - if the server needs more money they should go to their boss not expect the public to pay their wages ... do you tip if some salesperson helps you find a shirt or something? Why only at restaurants and several other businesses ....??? Ok, tip the bartender at your favorite watering hole hoping you’ll get a little more but that’ll stop when they all go to computer pouring as in several places I’ve been ....
Just being curious here ... not wanting to develop this post into a debate ....
Thanks,
Regards,
Jane
I think the staffers bought food and left a tip and are claiming the tip they left was the “overall” tip.
Hillary’s sandwich was provided free. As she doesn’t lower herself to paying (or tipping) she left nothing for the waitress and the waitress knew that.
In the meantime, the owner, or someone at the register, pocketed the larger tip and didn’t tell (or apparantly share) the larger tip with the waitress that waited on and talk to Her Highness. As this was some days ago, she let it fester prior to mentioning it and hadn’t been told that the establishment got a tip from the staff sale.
When I travel on business, I tip more that what I actually list for reimbursement. I make sure the waiter or waitress gets the tip and, more importantly, personal thanks along with it. Food service is tough work.
Hillary has to tell the truth to set up her lies.
At this point she’s being managed too well. Her handlers will never allow a tipless wait staff.
Let’s stick to the issues....it’s what’s for dinner.
