Clinton: Stiffed the waitress? Big tip found
Baltimore Sun ^ | November 8, 2007 | Glenn Thrush,

At first, the story line went like this: Sen. Hillary Clinton may have committed the ultimate political culinary sin -- not tipping the waitress.

But the story was wrong: NPR has retracted its initial report, a nasty little anecdote about iClnton meeting a working-mom waitress at the Maid-Rite eatery in Iowa over the summer, using her story in a speech -- and then stiffing her on the tip.

Now NPR has confirmed the tip with an editor's note: "Since this story aired, Hillary Clinton's campaign contacted NPR to say that the campaign paid Maid-Rite a bill for $100 for food for the day of Clinton's visit and left $57 in tip money. NPR contacted Maid-Rite manager Brad Crawford, who confirmed that a bill was paid and tip money was left.

"Crawford, who was not in the restaurant at the time, said that he believes a campaign staffer left the money with one of his employees, but "where Hillary was sitting, there was no tip left." Neither Anita Esterday nor the manager on duty that day were available for comment as of noon Thursday.''

Please you parsed all day long yesterday! Parse this.

The information available, as of today, introduces doubt that the original claim, of leaving a $100 tip, is true.

So you might understand ... it says that there is doubt that their claim is true! Got it?

Society says don’t tip those guys over there, but tip these guys over here. That’s BS.

Was listening to Rush yesterday, and it sounds like cheating people out of money, stiffing waitresses, etc, is a pattern with Ms. Rodham.
Of course, related to your joke, the other type of *stiffing* is definitely a pattern with ol’ billy-boy!

Apparently the waitress wanted her cat alive. This is pure Clinton Chinese Mafia War Room tactics to make NPR look like they got it wrong. You know they went back after the fact for damage control.

Sales staff, in addition to a minimum wage, work on a commission depending on where you go. At the very least, they get minimum wage. Wait staff get a measly 2.00 an hour or less, and rely on tips. Their wage is low because of the fact that they are supposed to be tipped, and that gets factored in. In fact, some states assume that as a waiter/waitress, you make X amount in tips and tax you accordingly. To not tip is plain rude and I can't believe that your folks don't do it. I tip waitstaff at least twenty percent if the service is good, fifteen percent if the service is bad. I even tip my mechanic. (He's a GOOD mechanic, and got even better after I started tipping him)

After my first posting on this I have received so much hate posts back - if people cannot debate in the arena of ideas and have to resort to humiliating attacks then they’ve lost the debate and my respect for them. I thought that most Freepers here were above personal insult but I guess I’m wrong ...it’s basically “My opinion, Not Yours” prevails. Somehow they’ve not really read the Forum rules .....Sad ...... Jane

Jane, sorry you were attacked that way. While I disagree with your p.o.v., it wasn't like you were advocating something heinous. Posters should've been able to refute you without going ad hominem.

This is a wonderful site (and I'm grateful for it) but it can get a bit rough. Most of us I think have been slapped around a few times on the pettiest of disagreements. Just seems to be human nature for people to go overboard with the ad hominem when they have the cloak of anonymity.

Be thankful you're a conservative, because on leftist websites they're insanely malicious and obscene to boot. At least FR's mods don't permit that here.

Hey Thanks - some people have emailed me with the same sentiment - I should learn to be a more thick skinned I suppose. In the future I’ll keep my POV to myself on emotional issues ...

Jane
