Ill. Governors' Office Rocked by Scandal
MyWayNews (via Drudge) ^ | Nov 8, 2007 | JOHN O'CONNOR

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - It might seem incredible that as a former Illinois governor reports to federal prison, the current chief faces similar misconduct allegations, from handing out state contracts as political rewards to accepting money under suspicious circumstances. But this is Illinois.

Democrat Rod Blagojevich, who won the chief executive's office five years ago on a promise to clean up former Gov. George Ryan's mess, has wound up besieged by accusations.

Two people already have pleaded guilty to federal charges in a shakedown scheme that also ensnared one of the governor's closest fundraisers.

And federal prosecutors have acknowledged they are also investigating "serious allegations of endemic hiring fraud" under Blagojevich.

Illinois has always had and will always have the finest government money can buy.

That's the Illinois Rupublicrat pledge.

I'm not surprised. Anybody who saw the endless goofy anti-gun laws he authored while a U.S. Senator would recognize his less than stellar character. I often wondered how much of that garbage was his own work and how much was handed to him by Mayor Daley.

I am so glad we have moved far far away from Chicago and live down here in the middle of the State where my representative — John Shimkus — actually responds to my e-mails and letters — not just send me a 2-page talking point mass produced response, or one that starts out, “While you and I may disagree ... here’s what I’m going to do and why I’m doing it ... blah blah blah, signed, Senator Obama.

Is that like a “thanks for caring” or “get out of my way” — I don’t actually represent constituents’ points of view — just my own.

What are the chances that federal prosecutors under this broken Justice Department will actually go after a Democrat? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Wait, wait, wait. There’s a huge difference between Ryan’s activities and Blagovoyovichs. Ryan is a Republican. Blickoblayovikivich is a DemocRAT.

Yes , we’ve always had corrupt politicians in Illinois (along with a local media that looks the other way and voters who’ll vote for whom they’re told)

The only difference is this time we have an aggressive federal prosecutor.

I won’t mention his name for fear of being flamed.

Moved to Indiana from Chicago just before Bay Doc Daley announced his new extortion, err, tax plan for Chicago.

Can't leave those patronage jobs unfunded.

I especially enjoyed hearing an NPR reporter act like a bobble-head nodding "yes, yes" to every lie coming from a CTA spokesman who implied that the budget crisis at the CTA is due to "infrastructure" needs. I had just checked the website and saw that (in fact) the CTA spends 71% or more of its budget on salaries and benefits.

Like the Chicago Public Schools, it's a patronage jobs program for Democratic party loyalists, not a public agency.

I am going to be intentionally vague here but I have had several private meetings with Blago. You can not imagine how vile and crude his language is in private. I am no prude, but it is shocking. And, he is unafraid to label co-politicos with the most vulgar and un-PC labels imaginable. Believe me.
