More than six years after retired United Airline captain Ray Lahr launched his Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) petition into the fate of TWA Flight 800, the FBI has shown himlikely by accidentone seriously smoking gun.
The Boeing 747 blew up off the coast of Long Island on July 17, 1996. One of the FBI documents received recently by Lahr and his attorney, John Clarke of Washington DC, details a communication that took place six days after the crash:
"On Tuesday, July 23, 1996, a representative from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) advised [the FBI] that after a visual analysis of both the videotape as well as a number of still photographs taken from various portions of the tape, the phenomenon captured by [name redacted] appeared to be consistent with the exhaust plume from a MANPAD [Man-portable air-defense] missile."
The FBI guy who looked at this must not have read it, or not have realized what it would reveal, says Lahr. Otherwise he would have redacted most of it as before.
Adding a new level of intrigue to the investigation is the fact that the video in question appears to have been shot on July 12, 1996, five days before the crash.
The earlier, unedited FBI document reports that a fellow and his friend on Long Island were attempting to videotape the sunrise when they saw and recorded a grey trail of smoke ascending from the horizon at an angle of approximately 75 [degrees].
So compelling was the visual that the fellow made a comment to his friend, heard on the tape, They must be testing a rocket. The fellow calculated that object was heading towards the Atlantic Ocean.
On the document Lahr first received, the story of the video ends right there. The next two paragraphs had...

When was the last time any class of airliners were ordered grounded immediately as a result of any crash? 727? 737? DC-10? L-1011? 757? 767? Any of them?
Just out of curiousity. Where is Jamie Gorelick now?? President of some university? as are most Clintanoids (well those not prematurely deceased).
The whole TWA 800 investigation was a sham and stunk.
This leads one to the logical conclusion that there is a cover-up by the most corrupt CIC in the history of this country.
Time to have the Burglar take the polygraph and then waterboarded!
That same 747 had flown non-stop from Athens to New York that day. By comparison a flight from New York to Paris was a short hop and there is no reason why the center fuel tank should have been filled. If you're not going to need the fuel then why fill it and drag all that extra weight with you?
It appears to document that some form of missile testing was taking place in the area just five days before the TWA 800 incident. I’m about 50/50 wondering if some group was going “Oh shit!” or “Praise be to Allah” on the 17th.
It has already been established that tests in the area were being conducted by the military; so a video of evidence of it 5 days before the 747 crash is perfectly consistent and totally irrelevant.
Or did I miss something here?
I should add, I’m 0% convinced that the center fuel tank blue due to some design flaw.
Moonbat logic.
The first launch (irrelevant) is on tape; the second (if it ever happened) is not.
Fevered fantasies or paranoia are not documentation.
Gorelick's history of selling us a bill of goods, who shot it down?
They probably found rocks, too. Doesn't prove that the 747 was "brought down" by rocks...
I do not believe the center fuel tank theory either.
You would have a better chance of convincing me that someone was smoking next to the damn fuel tank.
It was certainly shot down in my opinion but why and by who will always remain a question.
That makes sense with perfect fuel systems. So how come they are always dumping fuel before emergency landings?
Has anyone read the book nightfall by Nelson Demille?
It is a great read and though fiction, it is based on this event and the subsequent investigation.
Like I said....it’s FICTION...but it is a good book that I recommend.
And boy, what an ending!!
I've heard that individual airlines may have grounded their aircraft following an incident, but certainly in the case of the 747 and L-1011 I've never heard of a worldwide grounding.
Just at a guess, if you're trying to land in an emergency then you might want as little of the stuff that might burst into flames onboard as possible.
How about the Airbus grounding following the crash in NY a couple weeks after Sept 11?
Yes! this one guy that knows where the “skeletons” are hidden
