I see nothing wrong with a man’s family getting compensated for his death on the job. Illegal or not, the family is still without it’s breadwinner. The man was doing an honest job for the local govt.

How did this illegal alien have standing before the courts?

He died while committing a crime...illegally working in the US...

300,000 is a good stake in Ecuador. Not that much for Connecticut/New York. Where does “the family of” live? What is their status?

It's a fairly common question to ask whether illegal aliens drain money from the US or if they are contributing to our productivity. Some folks say that they pay their fair share of taxes. Other folks say they use up vast resources at hospital emergency rooms (since they don't have health care).

This is an illegal alien that just cost the taxpayers $300,000. Do you think he paid that much in taxes?

Illegal aliens hurt the country. In many ways. Can we afford to get rid of them? I say we can't afford not to.

This is actually good news. This means that scummy employers who employ illegals can’t duck paying damages when something bad happens to their lawbreaking workforce. It makes employing illegals less attractive.

Would that we could levy such damages on cheap employers who break the law with hiring. We need to make that happen at a local level if the Washington politicos lack the will to do the right thing.

Using an aluminum ladder on a jobsite. Stupid.

My sister’s best friend’s dad was killed this way, about 35 years ago. Back then there were not a lot of alternatives. There are today.

Who among you thinks an American in Ecuador as an illegal alien would have gotten such a settlement for his family if he were killed on the job? This country has gotten too damn soft.

Unfortunately, virtually no court considers the legal status of a plaintiff in a civil case. The employee got sued as well undoubtedly but the only money the illegals family would get would be Workers Comp which won’t be very much. So the family’s ambulance chasing lawyer sued the city who is the deep pocket.

But if I’m on the city council I make sure that we sue the painting company for the money paid to them for this contract since they broke the law. And then I call the INS and tell them that there is an Ecuadoran national they can go pick up at ..... address in NY.

Surprisingly, the town didn’t hire a union painter. Its hard to believe that in the NorthEast there is a politician anywhere who was brave enough to hire non-union for a public project. Of course, they might have insisted on a contractor who could actually legally do the work.

When a woman's wage-slave is damaged or broken by someone, either intentionally or through negligence, she is traditionally compensated for its loss. Much as she'd be compensated for the damage/loss of a mule. That's what much of our insurance industry is based on.

If, however, she brought her wage-slave into the country illegally, and put it to work then maybe she shouldn't be paid. Just as she wouldn't be compensated for the loss of a meth-lab employee if her illegal meth-lab blew-up, as I'm told happens in some communities.

< 'Wage-slave?' That sounds unconventional and critical. Is he allowed to say that?>
