A driver's license bureau employee who earned roughly $24,000 a year made thousands on the side illegally selling licenses to Brazilian immigrants, state authorities said.
Cammie Gray Andres, 46, a driver's license bureau employee since 2000, illegally charged at least five undocumented Brazilians between $2,500 and $3,000 for driver's licenses, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Using bogus Social Security numbers, Andres falsely issued them under a program designed to exchange licenses for valid ones from U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
She faces multiple counts of unlawfully issuing driver's licenses, official misconduct and unlawful compensation for an official and cheating.
With driver's licenses, illegal immigrants can apply for anything from jobs to credit cards and also register to vote.
''It's scary. If anyone could pay $2,500 for a license, the terrorists could get one, too,'' said Margie Furtado, who said her Brazilian husband, Alcemar Furtado, bought one for $2,500 because he believed that's how the system worked here.
Furtado is not illegal and has a valid green card, stressed Margie Furtado, who is American-born.
FHP Sgt. Marisela Fernandez found Andres had issued an ``inordinate number of Florida driver's licenses.''
Citing an open investigation, the state declined to comment on how many more licenses may have been issued. Margie Furtado said: ``It is a big ring.''
According to an arrest warrant, an intermediary known only as ''Chinea'' accepted the money from the immigrants and drove them to the driver's license bureau in Sunny Isles Beach, 17097 Collins Ave., or Miami Gardens, 21427 NW Second Ave.
They were told to look for Andres.
Sgt. Fernandez interviewed each Brazilian, who admitted they paid the money and said Andres gave them the licenses. None of them had driver's licenses from a U.S. territory. They only spoke Portuguese.
Andres, of Miami Gardens, is being held on $80,000 bail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Listed as ''Drivers License Examiner,'' Andres earns $24,363 a year. Andres is a divorced mother of two who used to work at a hospital in Broward County, said her former mother-in-law, Shirley Gray.
''She loved the job,'' she said.
The five who received the licenses: Furtado, Rodrigo Braga, Vlademir Pedro, Eleiete Pedro and Daniel Gaspar.
Furtado, a paver crew supervisor, came to the United States in 2000 and, by 2004, decided he needed a license. He talked to acquaintances in Pompano Beach who steered him toward the scheme.
Furtado believed paying that much for a license was normal in the United States, his wife said.
The couple did not uncover the scheme until they went to a Fort Myers driver's license bureau to renew the ID.
The befuddled Brazilian was asked to show his U.S. Virgin Islands ID. State employees quickly realized something was wrong.
Furtado is now working to earn his real license, his wife said.
The public debate about granting illegal immigrants driver's licenses has heated up in recent weeks, even surfacing in a Democratic presidential candidate debate last month.
New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer is floating a controversial plan that would grant illegal immigrants driver's licenses, though they couldn't be used to board planes or cross the border.
The plan will increase safety on the roads and lower insurance costs, Spitzer believes.
They forgot one of her charges. How about income tax fraud. I’m sure that she didn’t declare that money on her taxes.

Terrorism in the Iguazu Falls Region: $100 Bills, a DIME at a Time
Authors: Hugh Smith; ARMY COMMAND AND GENERAL STAFF COLL FORT LEAVENWORTH KS SCHOOL OF ADVANCED MILITARY STUDIES
Abstract: The Iguaza Falls, a once popular international tourist destination in the northeast corner of Argentina, is one of most beautiful places in South America. Located in the Tri Border Area (TBA), which consists of Puerto Iguazu (Argentina), Foz de Iguazu (Brazil), and Ciudad del Este (Paraguay), it is populated with between 12,000 to 40,000 Arabs and their descendants, as well as 30,000 Asians. The area is a lawless zone that is home to Islamic terrorists of Syrian and Lebanese descent and their sympathizers. Together they work in an informal economy of fundraising, narcotics trafficking, smuggling, money laundering, document and currency fraud, and the manufacture/movement of pirated goods. The porous borders of the region enable terrorist operatives of Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaeda and their splinter groups to pass through the TBA, easily conducting criminal activities to support worldwide terrorism.
How do you hold with drivers licenses for illegals now, Messers Spitzer and Clinton?
Guilty!
What the hell? All those people had to do was move to NY and our Der Feuer Spitzer would just give it to them for nothing.
“Tri Border Area”
Thank you for the fyi and ping, RDTF.
Wonder if they got registered to vote with their new licenses?
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Andres is a divorced mother of two who used to work at a hospital in Broward County, said her former mother-in-law, Shirley Gray.
‘’She loved the job,’’ she said.”
I think that this qualifies as treason. Hang her high!
But unless they are illegal, they don't need to bribe their way into getting these illegal licenses. Right?

Simply amazing. No need to wonder if the illegals are voting your link makes it is obvious. This is the same technique that the Muslims are using. Embed themselves in positions that will give them authority that will lead to public acceptance and power then turn the screws.
Hopefully these are felonies.
What is best in life?
To screw the American people, and to give each and every illegal invader: Amnesty.
