'Special Report' Panel on Uproar at the State Department (Duncan Hunter: Fire 'em!)
Fox News ^ | 11/5/07 | Fox All Stars

JACK CRODDY, FOREIGN SERVICE OFFICER: It's one thing if someone believes in what is going on over there and volunteers. I am sorry, but, basically, that is a potential death sentence, and you know it.

And then another thought—who will take care of our children? Who will raise our children if we are dead or seriously wounded?

REP. DUNCAN HUNTER, R-CALIF.: I think we should fire those folks that don't want to go. You can't have people on the payroll who refuse to be deployed to the tough places.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BRET BAIER, CO-HOST: There you see some of the back-and-forth over this issue at the State Department this week at a town hall meeting, where some officers said they did not want to be assigned to go to Iraq.

Now the Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has weighed in with a cable to all diplomats, sending it out today, saying "Regardless of how the jobs may be filled, they must be filled. It is our duty to do our part towards succeeding in the vital mission in Iraq given to us by the President."

Now some analytical observations from Jeff Birnbaum, columnist of the Washington Post, Mort Kondracke, executive editor of Roll Call, and syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer, FOX News contributors all.

Some of the back and—it was amazing to watch that town hall meeting, Jeff. The vitriol for some of these Foreign Service officers about possibly being assigned to Iraq—there has not been a decision yet, but it might be that.

JEFF BIRNBAUM: That's right, they may be forced to go. And they should be forced to go. I think that is part of their duty.

I think you can make too much of these protests. There were also plenty of Foreign Service officers who

Small Correction: This sounds like a good way to get rid of Foreign Service people that have forsaken their responsibilities to their employers, the US Taxpayers!

I would demand the FSOs sign a contract pledging to honor their commitment and if they will not do so then fire them!

I talked to my supervisor this morning about Hunter. He said he had “heard” of Hunter. I told him to check him out.

“Let’s replace these reluctant Nellies with America’s finest citizens,” concluded Hunter. “Our wounded warriors will serve our country efficiently, effectively and with undying patriotism.”

That’s what I meant when I said they were ‘waited on like kings’. Among other things, the US Marines as their personal, private body guards...

If they won’t honor their pledges then fire them and hopefully this means loss of future benefits as is usual in the commercial world.

Hunter will recommend a team of State Department recruiters be immediately sent to Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals, as well as posting application forms on relevant employment websites.

AWESOME

Embassy duty would be hair better in Tokyo than in, for example, Kinshasa.

Directed assignments are not nice, but they are part of the program. If I am directed to go to Iraq, I either will go or resign.

As long as you have served five years, wouldn't you still be eligible to collect pension benefits based on years of service if you quit?

I think Jack Croddy should be the very first “draftee,” and he shouldn’t get Baghdad. Ramadi, maybe.

The current President is no "Ronald Reagan," and sadly, neither was his father.

Believe I just won my father over to Duncan the other day with this info. He had similar experiences in the military with these state dept. s***-birds.
He was for Rootsky, and he’s no idiot, having worked for the DIA/Pentagon.
Of course there may be an oxymoron here somewhere, military intelligence . . . .

"“Let’s replace these reluctant Nellies with America’s finest citizens,” concluded Hunter."

Duncan Hunter is absolutely on target, but a little bit shy in his condemnation of this Croddy COWARD. In fact, I believe that the selection of Condoleeza Rice as our Secretary of State should be reviewed with an eye to finding a somewhat more forceful leader for that swamp that she reports to. I don't really think that it can be said that she in any way runs the place. We'll find out very soon.

"If I am directed to go to Iraq, I either will go or resign. I don’t really know which I would choose. I will not make the government fire me."

Reminds me of a guy I knew in 1968 who demanded that he travel to Vietnam by ship because he was afraid to fly.

He was a C-130 navigator collecting flight pay and nearing the end of his fifth year working 7 to 4 watching other people train as missile crews in Tucson.
