Washington, D.C. U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), ranking Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, will be meeting with President Bush today regarding his Wounded Warrior proposal to Congress. During todays meeting, Congressman Hunter intends to also suggest that State Department personnel who refuse deployment to Baghdad be replaced with wounded veterans at Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals.
When the State Department appears to be filled with reluctant personnel, lets turn to those who have bravely followed the American flag in the most dangerous of assignments, said Congressman Hunter. The U.S. Marines, soldiers, airmen and Navy personnel presently recovering at our national military hospitals have all the character required by the Department of State. They are brave, loyal, intelligent and fiercely determined to win the War on Terror.
They are veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters and you can be sure that when called on for difficult assignments, they wont convene a town meeting to protest. Especially for those whose mobility has been impaired by wounds, State Department positions, not only in Baghdad but around the world, will provide excellent jobs as well as availing our nation of their enormous talent.
Hunter will recommend a team of State Department recruiters be immediately sent to Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals, as well as posting application forms on relevant employment websites.
Lets replace these reluctant Nellies with Americas finest citizens, concluded Hunter. Our wounded warriors will serve our country efficiently, effectively and with undying patriotism.

I will be tuning in to see if this idea will come to fruition.
I pray it will.

Awesome idea. Really fun. Let’s start applying common sense.
Say by electing Duncan Hunter.

Ironically, the State Department is slated to take over Walter Reed in a couple years. In fact, many of the upgrades at WR are for the State Department, and not for WR.

Here is more on this story and a video of Hunter’s statement in congress.

[snip]Yesterday on the House floor, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) angrily attacked those diplomats who have expressed concern about serving in Iraq. Hunter said he had personally urged President Bush to fire the diplomats for speaking out:
Ive recommended to the President today that we do this that we fire those recalcitrant State Department personnel who say its too dangerous for them to go back to Baghdad. They want another assignment let them leave the service.

Two years ago....I went to a interview with the Frankfurt embassy. I am a 22-year Air Force retiree, with two bachelor degrees and three associate degrees. The job would have been a $20k pay-cut for me but closer to where my wife wanted to live. I made it to the final interview and thought I had this almost wrapped up. Two of the three interviewers were fairly easy and I knew I had plus points...but the old liberal arts gal tossed pointed questions that indicated that they really didn’t want ex-military. In the end...I didn’t get the job. I spoke to a CIA guy later, who indicated that most of the state department is anti-military. I know various comm contractors who are retired military and working for the state department...who say the same thing. They have various ways to weed out the applicants and ensure they don’t get the “right” type of personnel. What surprises me is that most of the CIA is pro-military and don’t have any issues except no foreign born wives

Let me guess:
- You're not a person of color.
- You didn't graduate from one of the approved Lieberal indoctrination centers.
- You would put America's interests ahead of the interests of the country where you'd be posted.
Sorry, bub. But three strikes and you're out. < / sarcasm >
