Mitt Romney's campaign tells The Brody File that Bill Wichterman, who used to do conservative and religious outreach for Fred Thompson's campaign, has joined Team Romney. This is a nice "get." He'll be a part of the Faith and Values steering committee.
Bill Wichterman left the Thompson campaign because Thompson DOES NOT support the federal marriage amendment. At least the version that is on the table now. Mitt Romney does support it. Wichterman liked that fit. Who can blame him?
This is a guy who has been big on the federal marriage amendment for years. When Bill Frist was trying to push the amendment through the Senate, it was Wichterman who was leading the charge by getting social conservative groups organized and mobilized. Expect him to be a big boost for the Romney campaign when it comes to the marriage issue. His depth of knowledge here is masterful.
It's not just the marriage issue. By nabbing Wichterman, it's a sign to inside and outside the beltway social conservative groups that Romney is serious in courting them. Wichterman is very well respected by these groups and he has close contacts at places like Focus on the Family, Family Research Council, etc. When he was on the Hill, he was very active in the Senate's "Value Action Team" meetings where dozens of groups would meet once a week to go over social policy and plot strategy.

Dobson isn’t a “clergyman.”
“Since Dobson is absolutely opposed to Rudi and, let’s say, not happy with Fred, then before he jumps to a third-party he almost has to endorse some GOP candidate that he does accept.”
“The online evangelist said Dobsons Focus on the Family, for example, is part of the World Congress of Families an organization which the foundation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name of the Mormon church, is a major funder of. Keller also claims Dobson and other leaders remain silent on Romney because they dont want to upset the large number of Mormons who buy their books.”

Mitt is racking up the evangelical endorsements.
Actually, the amendment fred supports is the right one. It says no state has to recognize the marriage laws of another state. That solves the problem, while leaving the definition of marriage to the states. It's not the feds business.

Nice of you to stop by, Mitt. Great campaign you're running.
Mitt didn’t say that, his campaign did.
Mitt was waiting for his lawyers to tell him what to say.
Dr. Dobson is not an ordained clergyman, he's a child psychologist by profession who founded a nationally recognized advocacy organization called Focus on the Family (FOF) to support Christian values in American society.
One of the ways FOF supports Christian values is through informing members and a nationwide radio audience of pending or proposed legislation that involves moral and/or social engineering issues. FOF is a non-profit tax exempt org and can't endorse any candidate for public office. As I understand it, Dr. Dobson as a private citizen can endorse candidates in his role as a private citizen but not in his role as the leader of FOF, and not by any means that could be associated with FOF's radio and literature outreach.
Whether or not I correctly understand his legal standing regarding endorsing a candidate as a private citizen, one thing I do know for sure is that he is not a clergyman.
He is against amnesty, he thinks the borders should be closed. You can read his statement, probably on his web page.
I have not decided who I will support, So many say it’s so late to start a campaign, I am 84, to me it is still too early.
Many will be sick and tired of this two year campaign. when it is over, and others will get so vicious we may have some real disturbances among the natives. Our Congress began the 2008 campaign the day after they were sworn in. The senators that are running for President have spent much more time on the campaign trail that tending to their job, If they were employed by a private business they would be fired.
ROFL!
Fred doesn’t have any great record on immigration.
Why would he endosrse someone who is not a winner? I like Huckabee, but it seems to me he doesn’t have the organization and money to make a strong bid at the candidacy.
Another good day for Mitt!
