"Of all the lessons learned from Katrina now being put into place in California, I would hope the one he would remember is that politics has no place in any disaster," she added, before taking a shot at the slow manner in which promised federal aid has been delivered.

Yea !!! Doesn't GWB know that only the RATs can politicize a national tragedy (like blaming the fires on the Guard units over in Iraq).

“”It makes a significant difference when you have somebody in the statehouse willing to take the lead,” Bush said, according to the Associated Press.”

Telling it like it is.

I heard him say this yesterday...it is the truth. If she says, she was the only game in town for a week, she’s full of it. The President was trying to get her to call for an evacuation 48 hours before the storm hit. All she was pray for us. Her ineptitude(and lapse of memory) is showing. .

Blanco is not fooling anyone, at least anyone who votes in Louisiana. If what she says is true, there's no way Bobby Jindal would have won a 13-candidate race with 52% of the vote. The people of Louisiana voted against her singular failures as much as anything else, epsecially in light of the fact that Bobby made those failures a part of his campaign.

Of course, note how the driveby media carries her water:

As the California wildfires continued to rage Thursday, so too did the political feud between President Bush and Gov. Kathleen Blanco that has smoldered since the federal government's slow response to Hurricane Katrina.

Clearly they're calling it "Bush's Fault" in the opening line.

Bush and his penchant for turning the other cheek all these years has not served him well at all. His "new tone" in Washington from the beginning was a mistake because if you let people lie about you over and over eventually a lot of people believe the lies. Which makes sense when so many of the sheep get their information from the MSM. Add all this to the fact that Bush hardly ever defended himself and you can see that when he says even a little thing like this it looks substantial.

“”It makes a significant difference when you have somebody in the statehouse willing to take the lead,”

It also makes a difference when you have a populace who isn’t used to sitting around and waiting for govt handouts as a way of life.

Blanco:
I was the only game in town, leading for nearly a week while my cronies got rid of damning evidence before the feds got to see it.

Interesting that Bush did not even mention Blanco, but the liberal media knows he was referring to her. So apparently, his statement must be correct.

Blanco is a shameless liar, but then she is a Democrat—same difference.

While Blanco and Nagin were soiling their underwear during and after Katrina, the Coast Guard (Feds) rescued over 30,000 people.

The National Guard(Feds) mounted a mobile, self sustaining(no water, food, or gas along the way—think about it)relief convoy that had to cut through downed trees and drive through the 18,000 square miles of flooded terrain that was New Orleans and Louisiana, and they reached NO in 72 hours—that’s 3 days.

In 3 days, there was a complete breakdown of society in the SuperDome.

It was so embarassing to Americans that their fellow citizens, in the midst of a national disaster, instead of displaying the grit, resources, and helpfulness that Americans have ALWAYS displayed in such disasters, these citizens were the most whiny, leaderless, and unreliant people I ever saw. It was like watchimg something in a Third World country unfold.

Hey Blanco—President Bush is NOT a first responder. You and Nagin were the first line of defense and YOU FAILED MISERABLY.

Oh, and let me not acknowledge two other cretins who helped make it look like Katrina was Bush’s fault—Shep Smith and Geraldo Rivera. Idiots.

Over 5 times as many people evacuated in CA vs. NO. Look at the difference in the number and tyoes of incidents reported.

Blanco and Nagin need to be reviled everywhere they go for the rest of their life and never allowed to get away with their lying nonsense.

I noticed that too, and laughed out loud at work where I was listening (with headphones).

To the author of the article: you mention the federal government’s slow response, be aware that the feds have to respond to the request of state leadership (Gog. Blanco), not the emergency itself. Get a copy of a text called the “United States Constitution” and you’ll understand why the feds can’t just march in and take over.

Blanco was slow to respond.

Bush never mentioned Blanco’s name. So why did she recognize herself? The fed gov is not supposed to be the first responder and she knows it. Those people had five days warning to get out of NO. I watched the weather myself and heard Bush himself warn them to get out a couple of days before. I am sick of these people and the media.

If she’d taken the lead, as she said, she wouldn’t have been afraid to run for re-election...

Though I'm actually elated to *finally* hear this POTUS -- albeit passive-aggresively -- slap the Louisiana wench down like this??
I'm afraid it's too late for a "No Mr. Nice Guy - No more MR. Clean" shtick.

Wayyyyyy too late.

...'bout 2 years too late.

Blank-O is such a twit. Cat 4~5 hurricanes affect a LARGE area far beyond the affected city/region, and can ground or otherwise hinder outside help from arriving on scene until the storm has dissipated. And if you're remotely staged equipment and supplies are also damaged or destryoed....

The Kali wildfires don't quite have that sort of influence. Never-the-less, Bush is right about Arnie having a better take charge local presence than the Blank One. I also don't think the administration or FEMA had to beg Arnie to ask for help so they could mobilize federal assets.

If the President would have used language like this from day 1 of his administration instead of the “new tone” crap, he would be sitting pretty right now. That’s why Reagan was loved by some many. He was not a mean guy, but when he got spit upon by the media or the Rats, he’d let them have it in a “nice” way. Calling them out like Bush did with Blanko is exactly what Reagan would have done.

The latest flare-up came when Bush, while touring the California disaster area, took an apparent swipe at Blanco's post-Katrina leadership as he complimented California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. "It makes a significant difference when you have somebody in the statehouse willing to take the lead," Bush said, according to the Associated Press.

I guess "swipe" is the new left buzz work for truth.
