BATON ROUGE - As the California wildfires continued to rage Thursday, so too did the political feud between President Bush and Gov. Kathleen Blanco that has smoldered since the federal government's slow response to Hurricane Katrina.
The latest flare-up came when Bush, while touring the California disaster area, took an apparent swipe at Blanco's post-Katrina leadership as he complimented California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"It makes a significant difference when you have somebody in the statehouse willing to take the lead," Bush said, according to the Associated Press.
The president's statement, coming from a White House that seems determined to avoid a repeat in California of the public-relations disaster that followed Katrina, brought a swift response from Blanco.
In a statement forwarded by her press office, Blanco noted that it took federal forces nearly a week to arrive in Louisiana after the storm. "I was the only game in town, leading for nearly a week without the president's help," Blanco said.
"Of all the lessons learned from Katrina now being put into place in California, I would hope the one he would remember is that politics has no place in any disaster," she added, before taking a shot at the slow manner in which promised federal aid has been delivered.

Yea !!! Doesn't GWB know that only the RATs can politicize a national tragedy (like blaming the fires on the Guard units over in Iraq).
“”It makes a significant difference when you have somebody in the statehouse willing to take the lead,” Bush said, according to the Associated Press.”
Telling it like it is.
This sleezy press will continue to mention Katrina as long as President Bush stays in office. Not once do they mention Mississippi or Florida, two states with compentant leadership. Hell, even Can Cun reacted better than the corrupt officials in New Orleans.
Yep! I heard that on the radio yesterday and shouted "FINALLY, he's putting the blame where it belongs!"
In today’s mamby pamby society, when someone tells the truth it’s “taking a shot.” Cant speak the truth anymore for fear of hurting someone’s feelings.
I heard him say this yesterday...it is the truth. If she says, she was the only game in town for a week, she’s full of it. The President was trying to get her to call for an evacuation 48 hours before the storm hit. All she was pray for us. Her ineptitude(and lapse of memory) is showing. .
Anecdote: Friend in NO enters elevator with a guy with 2 big bags, asks guy how long he has been there. He says, 2 years helping with the reconstruction. Friend says, how's it going. Guy replies, It's tough to help people that won't help themselves.
The MSM and their Dim Party can’t lie and get away with it anymore, we have real time facts as they happened, what EVERYONE said and when, who ordered what when, who called who when, who was warned when, and what action was taken when.
Those threads are devastating to the MSM’s fictional script, especially since they were called on it AS THEY WERE writing it!
Of course, note how the driveby media carries her water:
As the California wildfires continued to rage Thursday, so too did the political feud between President Bush and Gov. Kathleen Blanco that has smoldered since the federal government's slow response to Hurricane Katrina.
Clearly they're calling it "Bush's Fault" in the opening line.
Not true! Blanco was VERY busy during the run-up to Katrina - picking out shoes for her TV appearances!
It also makes a difference when you have a populace who isn’t used to sitting around and waiting for govt handouts as a way of life.
Well Blanco, then why didn’t you COOPERATE when Bush asked LEAD the coordination of LA Nat’l Guard?
I was the only game in town, leading for nearly a week while my cronies got rid of damning evidence before the feds got to see it.
Interesting that Bush did not even mention Blanco, but the liberal media knows he was referring to her. So apparently, his statement must be correct.

what kills me is that all these people’s homes in california should not have been built, yet the situation in New Orleans is so much against people living there, nothing was ever said along those lines. I wonder why a Hurricane which takes days to leave and the state or locals did nothing in California these people got out of harm’s way with less notice.
Blanco is a shameless liar, but then she is a Democrat—same difference.
While Blanco and Nagin were soiling their underwear during and after Katrina, the Coast Guard (Feds) rescued over 30,000 people.
The National Guard(Feds) mounted a mobile, self sustaining(no water, food, or gas along the way—think about it)relief convoy that had to cut through downed trees and drive through the 18,000 square miles of flooded terrain that was New Orleans and Louisiana, and they reached NO in 72 hours—that’s 3 days.
In 3 days, there was a complete breakdown of society in the SuperDome.
It was so embarassing to Americans that their fellow citizens, in the midst of a national disaster, instead of displaying the grit, resources, and helpfulness that Americans have ALWAYS displayed in such disasters, these citizens were the most whiny, leaderless, and unreliant people I ever saw. It was like watchimg something in a Third World country unfold.
Hey Blanco—President Bush is NOT a first responder. You and Nagin were the first line of defense and YOU FAILED MISERABLY.
Oh, and let me not acknowledge two other cretins who helped make it look like Katrina was Bush’s fault—Shep Smith and Geraldo Rivera. Idiots.
Over 5 times as many people evacuated in CA vs. NO. Look at the difference in the number and tyoes of incidents reported.
Blanco and Nagin need to be reviled everywhere they go for the rest of their life and never allowed to get away with their lying nonsense.
Good point.
