Xer Ping

Ping list for the discussion of the politics and social (and sometimes nostalgic) aspects that directly effects Generation Reagan / Generation-X (Those born from 1965-1981) including all the spending previous generations are doing that Gen-X and Y will end up paying for.

Yawn.... Honest genealogical research shows that men fathering children after the age of 40 was not uncommon in centuries past.

Well, women having babies in their sixties.. there may be something to be said for older/wiser parenthood, but personally I liked growing up with youthful parents. Would have been odd to have a 70+ geriatric as a dad in high school..

I don’t care what age they “father” the children, just so long as they “support” the children as well !!!

I’m 51 and have a 5 yr old son. He makes me feel 30 yrs younger and 30 yrs older, simultaneously.

Tiger Woods had an older father and he’s doing alright.

But who knows how long that will last?

Well, I know a certain 75-year-old.

Select about 10 young guys (say 25 years old), at random, off of the street. Give all of 'em hammers and power saws and put 'em all on a construction site with the 75-year-old.

When all the 25-year-olds are whining, panting and crying for their mamas, Grandpa will still be going strong.

We had Sassy when we were both 41 yrs old. I was used to having 5 children, now adults. My husband was never a daddy before. Sassy has changed his life 100%. He goes on class trips, attends PTO and is very involved in everything about her, including taking her to ballet. Its sort of funny as he was a mean nasty biker before & now Sassy has him wrapped around her pinkie for 8 yrs now. He dreads the day the boys come around.

I’m a statistic.... When my son graduates HS, I will be 58.

But don’t blame the man.... It took me that long to find a decent woman. ;)

My father was 50 when I was born. He died in Jauary at the age of 97

Young men can die too - all of life’s a gamble.

I was 53 when my youngest child was born. He is 6 now and doing wonderfully. We gave it a lot thought and did a lot of research before we decided to go ahead. The risk of genetic defects is indeed higher but individual genetic histories matter more than mass statistics, and defects can occur at any age. The most important consideration was whether I could live long enough, and remain active enough, to see the little guy through college (age 75). I could always fail to live through tonight but the odds are very good that I will get to 75.

Ages and causes of death of immediate ancestors:
Father: Still living, age 84
Paternal grandfather: 71 (heart attack)
Paternal grandmother: 86 (congestive heart failure)
Mother: Still living, age 81
Maternal grandfather: 80 (cancer)
Maternal grandmother: Still living, age 103

With 3 direct ancestors still alive at age 59, I have a very good chance of living well past 80. It might be better if I were female, but in that case I would be very unlikely to have a 6 year old.

Anthony Quinn fathered 12 known children. The last two he fathered in his late 70's and early 80's. What a stud!
