SAN DIEGO -- With fire spreading quickly westward, San Diego County officials ordered the evacuation of a huge area east of Interstate 15 between Del Dios Highway and Highway 56 early Mon"This is the worst fire this county has ever seen -- worse than the Cedar Fire [of 2003]," Sheriff Bill Kolender said.
At a news conference shortly after 6 a.m., officials said fires had spread dramatically overnight, whipped by fierce Santa Ana winds. They said fire had jumped Interstate 15 at Lake Hodges and was burning in parts of Rancho Bernardo. Because of the explosive and unpredictable nature of the blazes, all residents living between Interstate 15 and Interstate 5 from Del Dios Highway in the north to Highway 56 in the south were told to begin evacuating.
"This fire is moving very quickly," San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders said. "Watch TV, listen to the radio and have your car prepared to leave."
Among the communities in the evacuation area are Rancho Sante Fe, Carmel Highlands, Rancho Bernardo, Del Mar Heights and Fairbanks Ranch and parts of Rancho Penasquitos.
Officials have opened Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley to handle the large number of evacuees.
Sanders asked everyone in San Diego County to minimize the use of cell phones to leave the airways free for the use of emergency personnel.day.

I voted for Arnold and today I’d do so again if the circumstances were the same. I don’t like what we’re stuck with, but then I’m not the party chiefs who encouraged the man to run.
If they hadn’t we would have been faced with McClintock and Bustamane and I think McClintock would have come close to winning, if not winning outright.
Are we going to have the 2003 fight all over again now? Ug.
Yes it is, and thanks for the kind words! I had to bug out this afternoon--all I'd done (at work) since yesterday was monitor the fires, so I had to start earning my salary again!
How do you run through the house and decide...what you must save-what you must leave?
It's unimaginable to me how much these people have lost.
A good reason to put all those special family photos on your computer. I would grab my laptop to pack mainly for the photos, plus my med records are on here, too.
I agree with everything you said.
Thanks, Mel.
North county - Rice fire — 21,000 avocado trees lost plus commercial buildings, dwellings and mobile homes.
California DOES practice fire and forest management.
They cut roads and firebreaks year long. California
is much dryer than Alabama and they have had little
water for over two years. The only thing missing
was the jihadi-arsonists match.
My daughter says the whole or Orange County is in a
state of emergency. The air is bad, eyes are stinging,
it’s hot and the Firefighters are near exhaustion.
Father in heaven... please send a miracle. Please
Lord. In Jesus name.

I guess it’s spreading. I finally heard from my DIL. She said the Navy evacuated them last night at midnight.
I asked my DIL how she and the boys were doing. I was expecting her to reply with worry about their house. She responded with “we are very Blessed” :’).
I’m so sorry to hear that. I’ll be praying for them. My parents have had to evacuate from their area as well. When you said “between La Mesa and Lemon Grove”, I pictured them inland, away from any of the major fires. The tiny La Mesa fire was put out almost immediately.
I myself ran for my life... Just got back today and the house still standing... Thanks God.
I just got an email from DIL. She says the air still to bad for her to go back yet.
Oh, and that’s great about your house.
The air is so bad... smoke is thick... I just went back to work at the Navy base in Coronado Island to get some fresh air :(
She said she was sent to the 32nd? Do you know where that is?
Yeah...32nd Street is the other big Navy base on the East side of the bay. Just South of the Coronado bridge if you’re familiar with San Diego bay.
Question of the Day: If a bush is on fire, does that make it BUSH's fault?
Leftist TODAY show anchor Matt Lauer wants to know.
No....
THIS is how a RED County, with a RED Mayor and a RED/PINK Governor handle a problem.
THIS is how people that don't consider themselves "victims," but rather "problem solvers" handle a problem.
San Diego Truly IS America's Finest City!
Amen.
I don’t like doom-and-gloom victimhood, from EITHER side of the spectrum.
It just does not help.
The Governator is doing a tremendous job; he is devoting full time to this crisis.
