Sources: Brownback to drop White House bid

WASHINGTON - Republican Sam Brownback will drop out of the 2008 presidential campaign on Friday, people close to the Kansas senator said Thursday.

Brownback, a longshot conservative contender, had trouble raising money to compete in the race. He is expected announce his withdrawal in Topeka, Kan.

He raised a little more than $800,000 in the third quarter of this year, his lowest quarterly amount since entering race. He has brought in more than $4 million overall and is eligible for $2 million in federal matching funds.

And another one bites the dust, thank goodness. Brownback was by far one of the worst candidates left in the field.

I suspect Keyes and/or Tancredo will be next. Tancredo probably will run for Senate, and Keyes will remain in the same obscurity that he is now.

Yeah, let’s drop the conservatives so we can all hold our noses and cast a vote for which RINO the lamestream media wants us to choose.

Too bad we don’t choose a candidate based on conservative values any longer, but allow the lamestream media and their cooked polls to encourage us to get behind who they say is popular.

No, I’m not a Brownback supporter, and will fight for Hunter to the bitter end. I can alwys hold my nose and hope the RINO chosen only implements some of St. Hitlery’s policy’s, should he win the seat.

Too bad.
I’d hoped he’d keep up what he’d call “the good fight” so that every
person in the nation would know him by name.

And recognize his reputation as a supporter of ILLEGALS.

And have a good chuckle at his nick-name of “Switchback”; which was
well-earned when he switched his “Yea” to “Nay” during the last vote
for “comprehensive immigration reform”.

Brownback talks a good game on issues of morality, abortion, etc.

But “in the clutch”, he’s just another political hack.

He ran a stupid campaign. He went negative early and never recovered.

He entered the campaign with a better reputation amongst Republicans than that with which he leaves.

I would bet that Tancredo will be next to drop out, although his Congressional seat, which covers Colorado Springs, probably the most strongly evangelical city outside the South, is safe. He is running out of money. I don’t believe Hunter is faring much better financially; as far as I know, he should be able to keep his day job in Congress. On the Democrat side, with Hillary Clinton having a considerable lead, the race now appears to be an extended audition for the Vice Presidential nomination, a Cabinet-level position, or an ambassadorship in a third Clinton administration. The two Democrats that are out of the power club, Dennis Kuchinich and Mike Gravel, seem to be running under the radar through a network of small dollar supporters, sort of like Ron Paul.

I think the MOE candidates should drop regardless. Take their average polling numbers, subtract the margin of error. If result is less than or equal to zero, they probably don't have much of a chance at winning the nomination. It's just the reality of the situation, I think.

I think the odds are very good that Paul will run as a third party candidate after he drops out of the Republican race.
