The Right's Revealingly Cruel Treatment of the Frost Family (Free Republic Mentioned)
The New Republic ^ | Friday, October 12, 2007 | E. J. Dionne

Posted on 10/12/2007 6:13:47 AM PDT by kristinn

Conservatives claim to be in favor of stable families, small businesses, hard work, private schools, investment and homeownership.

So why in the world are so many on the right attacking the family of Graeme Frost?

SNIP

The kids were treated, thanks to S-CHIP. The Frosts spoke out so the public would know that real people lie behind the acronym.

Their reward was to be trashed on right-wing blogs and talk radio as if they were multimillionaires ripping off the system. The assault on the Frosts apparently began on the Free Republic website and quickly spread to National Review Online, Power Line, and Michelle Malkin's blog, as well as Rush Limbaugh's radio show.

SNIP

OK, the Democrats are "fair game," but a 12-year-old? No wonder nobody talks about compassionate conservatism anymore.

As a general rule, I am a fan of the blogosphere. It has broadened the public debate and brought new people into politics. And nasty stuff is by no means limited to the right-wing blogs. Left-of-center blogs whose political views I largely share have published offensive stuff, too. Shaun Mullen, who blogs at The Moderate Voice--yes, there are moderate blogs--is right to generalize when he says that the targeting of the Frost family reveals "the vicious underbelly of the blogosphere."

So rather than just condemn the right-wingers as meanies, let's take their claims seriously. Doing so makes clear that they are engaged in a truly perverse and incoherent form of class warfare.

SNIP

But here is a family with modest possessions doing everything conservatives tell people they should do, and the right trashes them for getting help to buy health insurance for their children.

No, Mr. Dionne, that's a lie (or at least a blatant misrepresentation). The kids would have received their emergency treatment regardless of who was paying for it.

Let's try again, shall we?

The kids were treated and the bills were covered by S-CHIP.

modest possessions

Lessee--EJ

1 $ 300K house plus nice interior--check

1 $ 160K + warehouse--check

Four kids in private school--check

Two cars (don't know details)--check

Family business to hide "business expenses" and cash transactions from the IRS--check

The bottom line--this guy is better off than I am and I think it is outrageous that I should be required to pay for his family's f(*&^ing health care.

If that is "mean-spirited", DJ, you can kiss my $ 75 bought at the pound--chow-chows rear end.

However, a spokesman for the Maryland office that runs the health insurance program assured the media the Frost’s are qualified.

Isn't everyone qualified under Maryland's SCHIP program? There is no need/asset assessment, correct? If so, therein lies the problem. They set up an inherent scam system.

How dare these conservatives beat up on this rich family for using tax dollars that could be better spent on poor kids. Don't they know that only liberals can beat up on rich families?

Isn’t The New Republic the magazine that made up a ton of stories? Never let the facts get in the way of a good story, I guess.

In ‘Liberalworld’ any time you point out hypocrisy, misrepresentations, and flat out lying by leftwingers, you are accused of ‘being mean’.

I’ll also note, excluding death, the Democrats used this child in a manner reminiscent of how terrorist used children to carry bomb belts into pizza parlors to then self detonate.

They tossed this kid out there, let him ‘explode’ politically, and then act surprised the family is getting beaten down by facts.

What’s “cruel” about asking why a family (that sends two children to a hyper-expensive private school) is covered by a public subsidy program that could be expanded to cover even richer applicants?

Do they meet the qualifications? Only the Right is asking.

...and that’s not cruel. It’s just asking.

So the Dems throw out this kid with their script and then whine when his lies are challenged. Same game they play with minorities and women. And of course try to find a “journalist” that has the ability to critically examine what is said.

If politics was a football game they’d put a woman in at quarterback and go berserk when she was tackled before she crossed the goal line. Mean old defense.

“OK, the Democrats are “fair game,” but a 12-year-old? No wonder nobody talks about compassionate conservatism anymore.”

Apparently the Dems are such cowards that they have to hide behind children in order to further their agenda. It’s no different than Palestinian terrorists hiding among women and children.

“With the average family policy in employer-provided plans now costing more than $12,000 annually—the price is usually higher for families trying to buy it on their own—the answer is plainly yes.”

$450 a month = $5,400. $12,000 > $5,400

I have never heard who was at fault for the accident that led to the kids injuries. Has anyone ever posted a link to the accident report?

Having never sent children to private schools, is that a tax deductible expense?

I’m just curious.

Hey Dionne, no one is “attacking” a 12 year old, rather the Democrat pols who have used him. Get a clue.

Right out of the Rat's play book; twisting the real issue. They used same tactics with Rush's specifically "Phony Soldier" alias Jesse McBeth. It never fails!!!

Politics is a contact sport. Don’t dangle your children out there as bait if you don’t want them muddied when you are tackled for lying out loud.
