A Mormon in the Oval Office?
Washington Post ^ | October 4, 2007 | Robert Novak

Posted on 10/04/2007 9:40:06 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.

Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

I am sorry to say this but the LDS should be denigrated as a religion. I think it is a fake religion that has been trying to re-insert itself in the mainstream Protestant American tradition (they even started giving Christmas a big push in the last few decades).

****

You are so sure of your Tradition of Men when it comes to things of God!

You are entitled to your opinion and nothing more!

The practicing LDS strive always to do the will of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Saints during the time of Christ!

To say LDS are not followers of Chirst is juvenile in spirit!

It saddens me to see the level of bigotry displayed by my fellow Freepers in this thread - - here’s an example:

“I could not vote for a Mormon.”

Heisenbergs uncertainty principle clearly proves that an omniscient being can't exist.

Are you certain about this??

Thanks for clarifying which sins are unforgivable by the LDS organization.

he (like all murderers) will not receive forgiveness in this world or the world to come and must pay “the last senine” for his crimes before his soul is redeemed to a telestial glory.

Perhaps it is just a personal flaw in my character but I’m really tired of people fabricating “facts” about my beliefs.

It does get old; doesn't it!

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/js_h/1/19#19
17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself adelivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I bsaw two cPersonages, whose brightness and dglory defy all description, estanding above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My fBeloved gSon. Hear Him!
18 My object in going to ainquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join.
19 I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all awrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those bprofessors were all ccorrupt; that: “they ddraw near to me with their lips, but their ehearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the fcommandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the gpower thereof.”
20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself alying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, bmother inquired what the matter was. I replied, “Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off.” I then said to my mother, “I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true.”

Using old facts and data one - more - time.

Don’t you know that we love Jesus so much and He has saved us and our organization has lots of strong families and we do good works. (And we generally vote Republican.)

The scriptures used by the Mormon Church, as well as their entire curriculum, are open for anyone to see.

This is NOT true!

You will NOT find the content of any of the secret oops, SACRED, Temple Rites there.

Too bad that's all imagined.

Yeah... sure...

Tell me do you have knowledge stored in you grey matter somewhere of all that you created or do?

Do you not believe that every thing you ever did is not recored or a record some where with in your DNA starting from the first progenitor on down to your existance?

There are some other changes as well...

JST GENESIS 50: 24-38

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die, and go unto my fathers; and I go down to my grave with joy. The God of my father Jacob be with you, to deliver you out of affliction in the days of your bondage; for the Lord hath visited me, and I have obtained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of my loins, the Lord God will raise up a righteous branch out of my loins; and unto thee, whom my father Jacob hath named Israel, a prophet; (not the Messiah who is called Shilo;) and this prophet shall deliver my people out of Egypt in the days of thy bondage.

25 And it shall come to pass that they shall be scattered again; and a branch shall be broken off, and shall be carried into a far country; nevertheless they shall be remembered in the covenants of the Lord, when the Messiah cometh; for he shall be made manifest unto them in the latter days, in the Spirit of power; and shall bring them out of darkness into light; out of hidden darkness, and out of captivity unto freedom.

26 A seer shall the Lord my God raise up, who shall be a choice seer unto the fruit of my loins.

27 Thus saith the Lord God of my fathers unto me, A choice seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and he shall be esteemed highly among the fruit of thy loins; and unto him will I give commandment that he shall do a work for the fruit of thy loins, his brethren.

28 And he shall bring them to the knowledge of the covenants which I have made with thy fathers; and he shall do whatsoever work I shall command him.

29 And I will make him great in mine eyes, for he shall do my work; and he shall be great like unto him who I have said I would raise up unto you, to deliver my people, O house of Israel, out of the land of Egypt; for a seer will I raise up to deliver my people out of the land of Egypt; and he shall be called Moses. And by this name he shall know that he is of thy house; for he shall be nursed by the king’s daughter, and shall be called her son.

30 And again, a seer will I raise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of thy loins; and not to the bringing forth of my word only, saith the Lord, but to the convincing them of my word, which shall have already gone forth among them in the last days;

31 Wherefore the fruit of thy loins shall write, and the fruit of the loins of Judah shall write; and that which shall be written by the fruit of thy loins, and also that which shall be written by the fruit of the loins of Judah, shall grow together unto the confounding of false doctrines, and laying down of contentions, and establishing peace among the fruit of thy loins, and bringing them to a knowledge of their fathers in the latter days; and also to the knowledge of my covenants, saith the Lord.

32 And out of weakness shall he be made strong, in that day when my work shall go forth among all my people, which shall restore them, who are of the house of Israel, in the last days.

33 And that seer will I bless, and they that seek to destroy him shall be confounded; for this promise I give unto you; for I will remember you from generation to generation; and his name shall be called Joseph, and it shall be after the name of his father; and he shall be like unto you; for the thing which the Lord shall bring forth by his hand shall bring my people unto salvation.

34 And the Lord sware unto Joseph that he would preserve his seed forever, saying, I will raise up Moses, and a rod shall be in his hand, and he shall gather together my people, and he shall lead them as a flock, and he shall smite the waters of the Red Sea with his rod.

35 And he shall have judgment, and shall write the word of the Lord. And he shall not speak many words, for I will write unto him my law by the finger of mine own hand. And I will make a spokesman for him, and his name shall be called Aaron.

36 And it shall be done unto thee in the last days also, even as I have sworn. Therefore, Joseph said unto his brethren, God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land, unto the land which he sware unto Abraham, and unto Isaac, and to Jacob.

37 And Joseph confirmed many other things unto his brethren, and took an oath of the children of Israel, saying unto them, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

38 So Joseph died when he was an hundred and ten years old; and they embalmed him, and they put him in a coffin in Egypt; and he was kept from burial by the children of Israel, that he might be carried up and laid in the sepulchre with his father. And thus they remembered the oath which they sware unto him.

KJV  GENESIS 50: 24-26

 24.  And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
 25.  And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
 26.  So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

If God wanted to correct mistakes in our current translation of the Bible, how do you propose He should do so?

If God wanted to send a Great Delusion; would do you think He'd do it?

Unfortunately, MHGinTN and his other evangelical buddies turn every thread on Romney into an opportunity to bash the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, its members, and those things we hold sacred.

Turn it??

He IS an LDS organization member; isn't he?

Are you trying to say that certain areas in a persons life should be OFF LIMITS when determining if that person would get your vote?

The scriptures used by the lord’s Church, as well as their entire curriculum, are open for anyone to see and the reverent temple going LDS is able to discern by the Power of the Holy Ghost from whence his covenants is drawn!

The media is obviously more interested in his Mormonism than anyone else, because they want to make sure to put questions in everyone’s mind.

I have lived around Mormons most of my adult life, and just as in any sect, a good Christian is a good person. Mormons have their book of Mormon, which I think is a crock, their sect founder was a scam artist (IMHO), but what they teach each other and their kids is very, very good.

That being said, I wonder how much the LDS Church controlls LDS politicians. Let’s face it, Orrin Hatch is a POS, and buddies with Ted Kennedy. How can you be a good Mormon/Christian and be his buddy? Worse, agree with him on many policy issues? The power of the Church (any church) scares me more than which Christian sect he belongs to.

All one can do is be a friend and pray someday they will drink of the goodness of the Lord!
