A Mormon in the Oval Office?
Washington Post ^ | October 4, 2007 | Robert Novak

Posted on 10/04/2007 9:40:06 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.

Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

yeah, that qualifies as nuttyness! Way too complicated and willful. Christianity is so much simpler than that. But I find many many churches, not just the mormons, do complicate things and don’t really show the people how to find stillness and God. The fhu.com does do that it a very effective way.

I heard that the modern Apostles live from their own expenses. Most are independantly wealthy anyway and don;t need any money from the church. Those that are not (like Joseph Fielding Smith, who had 100,000 debt) live from having all things in common from the other Apostels. I haven't been able to find any source documentation, but I do believe they live the law of consecration. (Much in the way missionaries pay a fixed amount no matter whether you serve in London or Peru)

Acts 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Hey, doesn’t the president of LDS and his staff get a salary?

Hmm...

Is this similar to the JW organization?

The early joiners got to go to Heaven, but the later ones, the one's whose number is greater than 144,000 have to be content with being a water carrier or a wood hewer on the newly recycled Earth!

Wow.
I never even mentioned seminaries. Formal education does not make a pastor, it is the call of God. Pastors do ask there congregations for money. God says give 10% back to run the “church”...............
You know what never mind. You have decided that LDS is the only true church and all others are hacks and charlatans...so be it.......

Ummmm, I don’t believe that. But of course you have to set up bowling pins of styrofoam so they are lite enough for you to knock over. Okay, you get a brown star for effort.

You have my apology. I assumed you believed in the Bible. Since you don't believe in the bible what do you believe in?

Let’s see, he sets up an army and makes himself General, he calls a Council of 50 and has himself ordained King, he runs for the presidency and sends out campaigners (because he believes he has a chance in hell), he becomes in essence dictator of Nauvoo and posits a theocracy. Oh, he was a secessionist all right. But spin spin spin wash dry spin spin spin.

Are you on crack? Or off your Medication? Do you even realize just how well you are making my point?

Well yes. Joseph Smith was a crazy nutcase on an ego trip who when he lost his presidential bid would have no place to go but secession. And can you explain his being a General and being ordained king if he wasn’t trying to carve out his own little independent theocracy? So apparently you have provided signs of a lack of logical abilities right here for all to see.

Are you saying that Joseph Smith was ordained King of Nauvoo? Or the US? If you can document that I will bow to your superior knowledge and wisdom and never play games with your cabal again, but I am not holding my breath. For some reason I suspect more dissembling. LOL

Or, perhaps you were condemned for being a spinner of half truths and your huge ego was disproportionately hurt.

No, that would be you. Since I already taught you one new word today, I will teach you another. Look up projection : )

What is your real purpose?

To get a sane president who doesn’t have a God complex? I would think after all this time you could figure that out.

You do know the definition of insanity don't you? Doing the same thing time after time and expecting different results.

Do you really think you can elect a president who doesn't have a God complex? LOL

The fact that Boggs issued an extermination order against the Mormons almost 200 years ago isn't really an issue is it?

If cars had been invented then; would he have had a bumper sticker that read:

So many Mormnons;
So little time.

Pastors who insist on being paid for their ministry have their reward.

???

KJV 1 Corinthians 9:7-14
 7.  Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock?
 8.  Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?
 9.  For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
 10.  Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.
 11.  If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we shall reap your carnal things?
 12.  If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.
 13.  Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar?
 14.  Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

...I've already seen a picture of something modeled by non-Mormons.

Why do I need another, especially from someone who isn't trustworthy?

INDEED!!!

LeGrande, in your past twenty-odd postings, you seem to have difficulty refraining from casting aspersions on others.

You ask, “Are you insane?” You ask, “Are you on crack?”

Don’t you believe in civil discourse?

Isn’t that one of the tenets of FR?

For an Atheist, you sure have a BIG interest in Religion!

Sun Tzu said that it is important to know the enemy, then you will win in all your battles.

Only if his RELIGIOUS beliefs might, in some small way, affect or influence his political decisions.

Most folks feel that if a person is TRULY religious, then their beliefs DO make a difference in how he lives and acts.

And, presumably, how he'd govern a nation.
