A Mormon in the Oval Office?
Washington Post ^ | October 4, 2007 | Robert Novak

Posted on 10/04/2007 9:40:06 AM PDT by greyfoxx39

When Mitt Romney appeared last week (via closed circuit from California) before the Council of Retired Chief Executives meeting in Washington, he faced kindred souls: rich Republicans who had managed big enterprises. Yet the second question from the audience was whether Romney's Mormon faith was hurting his quest for the Republican presidential nomination. He replied that about the only people who brought up his religion were members of the media, an answer that simply is untrue.

Romney is asked about Mormonism wherever he goes. In my travels, I find his religious preference cited everywhere as the source of opposition to his candidacy. His response to the former chief executives that only reporters care about this issue sounded like a politician's tired evasion. Romney was either too obtuse to appreciate his problem or was stalling because he had not determined how to deal with it. Contact with his advisers indicates that it's the latter.

Your question isn’t the most pressing one, mine is, and I sincerely pray Mitt doesn’t get the nomination to be slaughtered and the nation put at each other’s throats by the dnc goon squad ... because I will be trying my best to dissassemble the smears the liberal media sycophants will make of Mitt's cultic religion. That's your cue to stupidly call me a bigot ...

Fantastic, slandering about religion which to me is the most gutter tactic one can take in politics.

I am so glad it ends there. I grateful in this country we stay away from the Islamic tradition of killing people of different beliefs. We only slaughter other people’s reputations with words, not guns. Thank goodness!

Only in the New International Version. The correct translation in the KJV Isaiah 14:12 reads,”How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!”. “The Morning Stars” and the “Morning Star” as found in Hebrews and in the Revelation of John, refer to the righteous and Christ Himself, respectively. You just did it again- calling good bad and bad good. You are on dangerous ground with your lack of understanding.

He “moved on”? He left his wives? Divorced them? NO he didn’t. Now you are just getting ridiculous- as expected.

I’ve never heard a member of The Church say that a prophet is the only man who can speak for God in all things. Is that your misguided definition of a prophet?

Once again, Republicans are more interested in fighting amongst themselves than pulling together for any decent candidate in the real battle against the queen of all socialism.

I am so glad you said that! I so agree.

I'm a Christian, too. Welcome to the club. I'll vote for Romney if Fred doesn't make it.

I suppose you disagree with President Spencer W. Kimball who had this to say in his speech “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet,” Tambuli, June 1981, 1 http://ldslivingmagazine.com/articles/show/557

In conclusion let us summarize this grand key, these “Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet”, for our salvation depends on them.

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.

Oops did you say, “I’ve never heard a member of The Church say that a prophet is the only man who can speak for God in all things”?

Shoot, you’re wrong AGAIN!

At first I thought this was confined to a few distempered evangelicals. However, I have found after this became a public forum topic, that many of my friends who are evangelicals have the same opinion. Out of some semblance of courtesy, they never bothered to tell me what they really thought about me and my beliefs. I have never heard a person speak from the pulpit at Church against any religion. My friends tell me they get a healthy dose from their pastors against "Mormons" and even budget money for materials and efforts to oppose "Mormonism". Perhaps with the Church's explosive growth we are pulling their faithfull tithe payers away. I guess their pastors can't earn a living and preach the Word out of reverence for their Lord- they insist on being paid for it. If they lose members, they lose their livlihood. I guess they see spending money on bashing us as a business investment. Their money perish with them.

Let me see now, who would I want in the office of President of the most powerful country in the world? Mitt or Clinton....I will walk over glass to vote.

I could care less about his religion. BTW, who does Hillary pray to?

Read in the context of the verse they reference to it:

Doctrine and Covenants 132

7 And verily I say unto you, that the conditions of this law are these: All covenants, contracts, bonds, obligations, oaths, vows, performances, connections, associations, or expectations, that are not made and entered into and sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, of him who is anointed, both as well for time and for all eternity, and that too most holy, by revelation and commandment through the medium of mine anointed, whom I have appointed on the earth to hold this gpower (and I have appointed unto my servant Joseph to hold this power in the last days, and there is never but one on the earth at a time on whom this power and the keys of this priesthood are conferred), are of no efficacy, virtue, or force in and after the resurrection from the dead; for all contracts that are not made unto this end have an end when men are dead.

...it makes perfect sense and not at all what you were trying to imply. The prophet is not the only one who can receive revelation from the Lord. He is, however, the only one who holds the keys of administration of Priesthood and all of its associated powers and ordinances at once. These keys are delegated by priesthood authority to others by the laying on of hands. This pattern is clearly demonstrated in the New Testament. Although Paul received a marvelous vision and revelation from the Lord, he could not begin his ministry as an Apostle until he had been set apart to that priesthood authority by the other apostles, who held the keys. Of course, you are not interested in the truth. So why should you actually read the scriptures?

I’m for voting either: Fred, Mitt, Duncan, Rudy or some other GOP into office, but never 3rd party. I don’t think I’m the guy to whom you should have directed your post.
