The Times of London reported Tuesday that Russia has sent technicians to upgrade Syria's air defense system after Israeli electronic warfare systems allowed IAF warplanes to attack a target in Syria last month.

The Times account also said that the airborne electronic warfare system, which it said jammed the Russian-made radar and the Syrian army?s communications, was "believed to have been designed in readiness for a possible attack on Iran's nuclear sites."

Russia has studied the big consulting firms well. I wonder how much Syria is paying for this scope change? :)

You should have told us you wanted to detect Jewish airplanes! That requires an upgrade costing... let me consult my price sheet... ahh, yes. Ten billion American dollars. In advance please; I'm afraid I have very little "wiggle room" on this.

I hope we and/or Israel hit Iran before any upgrades are done, although it probably won’t make any difference.

Pootie must have gotten a pretty angry phone call from a really ticked-off Assad over the quality of the Russian air defense system that Syria paid $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for and got nothing out of.

Too funny!

Let us say you are a real smart, hard working Syrian engineer. Is there any way that you are going to sit and rot on top of a radar/missile site? If nothing happens, you rot for years. If something happens, you are smart enough to know that maybe the sneaky Jews have something. And, of course your NCO corps is just first rate, and you love your higher officers and, since everything breaks, wears down has bugs, the logistics train is on top of things like a sailor on a free hooker, right?

Nope, you are not going to do it. It would not be prudent.

So, Syrian batteries are broken, short parts, under trained, with weak NCO’s and lousy officers, all of whom are bored out of their minds and don’t trust their leaders, their underlings, their equipment or training.

Maybe it was Chinese built hardware. They build many Russian/Soviet designs. Sort of like they build many US designed toys. Probably used lead based paint on the radomes. Probably used pirated version 0.9 of the software too. Russkies just putting it back to spec and upgrading the software to the version 4.0.4 software (which is still not the latest version of course).

” Is it too late to change to Chinese hardware? “

Can’t. It’s all been recalled due to lead paint.
