This afternoon we received a call from a viewer who said a business near downtown Reno was flying a Mexican flag above an American flag... which is in fact illegal.
This, after photos and comments about the flag were posted on Craigslist this morning. When we were able to have a photographer go and check everything out we found the story to be true.
It also didn t take long before the situation provoked a strong reaction. We are now going to show you , unedited, what happened. Click on the video to see what happened.

Hey I didnt say it....the ACLU did.
I am just following what they proport qualifies as freedom of speech. Thats what happens when you push things past a
reasonable degree. There are federal laws still on the books about flying the flag. The ACLU has taken it upon themselves in the spirit of freedom of speech to say ...”While there is indeed a federal law regulating the display of the U.S. flag, that law is merely advisory.”
Since when is a law advisory?????
So in that spirit if I break a law destroying property while expressing my freedom of speech ...it too should be ok.
Get that I am not in agreement with destroying property..I do have some ethics, however...I will take down an improperly flown Mexican flag..and I applaud those that do.
Be careful what you wish for (when you say viva freedom of speech)...you just might get it.
In answer to your question...where is the line?
If its a law ...ITS A LAW...not an advisory. If this law were respected and enforced then we wouldnt have the problem or atmosphere we now have.
Oh, gee, his conduct is commendable, compared with what I would have done to that Mexican flag. Burn, baby, burn!
I knew that about embassies, but I’m talking about ordinary homes. In our town (at least 50% Hispanic heritage) I sometimes see just the Mexican flag flying. That distresses me.
Exactly.
I agree. No point in having a law if it’s not enforced.
If someone is flying a flag in a way that is illegal then prosecute them UNDER THE LAW.
That’s not what was done in this case.
Bloody civil wars have erupted over "rank emotionalism" as you put it in your dead cold way.
Lorianne...Lorianne
listen carefully...or go back and read my last post.
The ACLU has shackled us. NO ONE enforces the law...because today again the ACLU has made this stupid statement.
While there is indeed a federal law regulating the display of the U.S. flag, that law is merely advisory.
They call the law advisory....cut me a break.
They would step in and say uhuhuh....no no...bad bad...
freedom of speech....no can do....
Now thats just ridiculous. ITS A LAW.
So having shackled us ...under their terms ..and their definitions of free speech expression we then can express ourselves by tearing down a Mexican flag and doing whatever we dang well please with it.
Is it right? Maybe not to me or you. But what are the choices? Is it right they stampede on LAW?
The result then is that you leave people no choice but to take these things into their own hands to rebel against a core belief embedded since we became a nation.
Like I said before....keep saying viva free speech...
be careful what you wish for ..you just might get it....
and in the spirit of the definition of free speech by the ACLU....things will run amok.
If the free speech by any means proponents would back off and ALLOW laws to be enforced then we would NOT have this kind of atmosphere we now face.
Now thats not so hard to understand is it?
If you’re correct, and the ACLU would appeal this to the Surpreme Court (flag cases I believe have already been heard by the SC), and the Supreme Court agrees that the law is ‘advisory’... then the law should be repealed.
There are proper avenues.
I’m not an ACLU supporter because they are not consistant. They are fickle and hypocritical about which cases they will take on and who’s side they will take.
I am, however, a free speech absolutist.
then you get what you get in return.
The wolf's at the door, let's endlessly discuss whether he has a right to be there; and if he doesn't, how we can in a reasoned manner convince him to go away.
At the funeral, they can praise us for our forebearance and praise the undertaker for his skill in making the body look "so good."
hey Lorianne...tell me
whats the proper avenue when respect for my country and respect for my flag and all it stands for ...are vandalized?
or dont they count for anything?
to me those are more precious than any $5 flag.
You can’t legislate respect. (That’s what gays are trying to do.)
not just respect...respect of the laws of my land....what about them?
Well and truly said.
I already said laws should be upheld. What more do you want?
You can’t legislate respect. You can only uphold laws or not uphold laws. You can’t force people to to respect laws, only to obey them.
oh lawd never mind ...you missed the whole point made three posts ago.
have a good night and good luck.

ARE ILLEGALS TAKING OVER RENO? Greg Knight, News 4 On Monday afternoon we received a call from a KRNV News 4 viewer who said a business near downtown Reno was flying a Mexican flag above an American flag... which is in fact illegal. Excellent Job as a Marine myself, I would have done the same. Those mexicans should be in some legal trouble. I thought you handled it with class. No need to piss on their flag, or shred it, you kept yourself out of trouble while showing those punks what TRUE patriotism is all about.
Harry Reid is their traitorous Senator; enough said. I always thought the people of Nevada had more sense. Then again there’s Massachusetts and California with traitors representing them too.
Everywhere you go, there’s Spanish. I complain to the managers of businesses all the time. Sure wish I wasn’t alone.
