Suspicious Device Investigated On Flight To Denver

(CBS) DENVER A SkyWest flight from Eugene, Ore. to Denver International Airport was searched by federal authorities Thursday morning after landing, authorities said. There was a report of a suspicious device being carried by one passenger.

The plane landed and was held away from the concourses. Passengers were taken off the plane as it was searched. They were then allowed back on board and the plane was going to taxi to a gate.

The FBI was questioning two people on the flight, a spokesperson for DIA said. He added there was no threat to the rest of the airport.

There were reports that one passenger on the flight from Oregon had a pipe like device with wires and electronic equipment.

At the same time, authorities were searching part of the airport in Eugene and had evacuated part of the terminal. Planes were being allowed to land, but no flights were taking off.

Police in Eugene told reporters in Oregon that they responded to a call at 6:21 a.m. PDT of a suspicious device found during routine screening of baggage.

Why not. The metal detectors never detect lighters anyway. I always just went through security with the lighter in my pocket.

Now that is pretty funny.

It could be that, OR it could be the items checked through security just fine, but some paranoid passenger went berserk at the sight of “WIRES!” and it ends up just being another practice panic.

I’m about to travel to a foreign country, carrying wires, antennas, radios, power supplies and all sorts of “interesting looking” stuff in my bags. Oh well....

Fortunately, I recently quit smoking so I’m no longer a security risk.

Great for you, you will save a lot on the BS taxes they put on smokers. LOL at the security risk comment.

I'm taking one of these with me on my next airplane trip. It's a demo board for a solid state accelerometer. Completely harmless. It just lights up and shows degree of tilt in two axes. I'm taking it with me to get a feel for how well these accelerometers correct for acceleration. For example, can they tell the difference between speeding up and pitching up?

I'll bet you read about me in the paper if the useless TSA idiots see it.

I can go through airport screening with multiple lighters in my carry on bags and they never get checked.

On one flight to Italy I had a backpack that carried my digital camera and a telephoto lens. They pulled that bag aside and wiped it with explosive detecting paper. Any fool could tell it was a telephoto lens. He had to move the lighter aside to see inside the backpack.

Very funny too. In August of this year they lifted the lighter ban. Hate to write rude, but I do think our TSA is a joke. Not everyone doing security, but when I am going through the fella’s seem to be more concerned about what they watched on tv last night, ate, etc than paying attention to security.

I'll save you a trip. No, they cannot. To do that you also need a three axis stable platform, a.k.a. an inertial platform.

But, when they scanned me at the gate of the BMW Championship, the hand-wand lit up over my tube of chapstick.

Weird.
