RJ's NFL Picks - Week Three
BlogCritics.org ^ | September 21, 2007 | RJ Elliott

San Diego (1-1) at Green Bay (2-0) - 1:00 PM (Sheridan's Line - San Diego by 4½)

I just don't know about San Diego this year. They didn't play very well against the Bears in Week One, although they got the win. Then they were humiliated by New England in Week Two (on SNF to boot). QB Philip Rivers did not look impressive in either game, and RB LaDainian Tomlinson has a total of just 68 rushing yards. Of course, you could say that both games were against good defensive teams, but that's also true this week against Green Bay. The Packers have allowed just 26 points through two games. And while they don't have much of a running game, QB Brett Favre is playing like he's ten years younger. I still think the Chargers will make the playoffs, but I do believe they'll slip below .500 this week.

RJ's Pick: Green Bay by 3

Minnesota (1-1) at Kansas City (0-2) - 1:00 PM (Sheridan's Line - Kansas City by 2½)

I truly do not understand the line on this one. Sure, Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson is pretty much the laughingstock of the league, but he's "injured" and so either Kelly Holcomb or Brooks Bollinger will start in his place (and either one would be an improvement). And sure, the Chiefs are at home, but the "Arrowhead advantage" ain't what it used to be. The fact of the matter is, the Vikings have a decent running game and a solid defense. What do the Chiefs have? QB Damon Huard and his 66.5 quarterback rating? RB Larry Johnson and his 3.8 yards per carry and zero TDs? TE Tony Gonzalez and his 71 receiving yards? The coaching wizardry of Herm Edwards and his career 50-54 record as a head coach? ...

>> Indianapolis?

No ... they beat Dallas. Prior to this year’s 2-0 start, it was the highlight of the franchise.

May take awhile before he catches up, but that may be too late.

For those of us in the same division...I certainly hope so.

How are the Saints any kind of favorite over Tennessee? That’s patently ridiculous — wishful thinking by those who just simply assume that they’ll suddenly show up to a ball game. Until they prove they can do that, take any competent team against them, and the Titans are far more than competent.

With Free Agency and First Round Draft picks, no team should be at the bottom for very long, unless they have totally incompetent coaching staff..........

The Texas will win. Kubiak knows how to beat the Colts (control the clock). Houston beat them last year at home, and the Texans will beat them again this year.

Hmmm...didn't even ping me to that when I was the one posing the question. Now, is that polite?

Don't be a bad sport. It's supposed to be fun. You give your team's fans a bad name when you act all snarky like that. (Not you, Red Badger.)

So, it was a little humiliating. It was five years ago. Time to move on.

:-)

Hope so. Kubiak totally rocks, and he learned from some of the best. I'm a die hard Broncos fan, so I always pull for Kubiak, one of our favorite sons! Go, Texans!

I LIKE the way you think!

However, if the Texans end up 3-0 Sunday night, the medics will have to be standing by. LOL

“And who won it last month? Hmmmmmm? :)”

The Texas even score a TD when we had our second sting offense against their 1st team defense.

Man I hate the Cowboys. Until the Texans win the Super Bowl the sweetest victory will always be the Texans first regular season game win which was over Cowboy’s. Just thinking of that game brings a smile to my face

I was there. September 8, 2002, 19 to 10. I was so hoarse the next day. It was very SWEET!

If you're ever at Reliant Stadium after I am through with my little adventure here, I have season tickets at Chute 16 on Loge II. Section 530, second row. Stop by and have a beer. :-)

I believe the Texans and the Broncos throw down on December 13 which is a Thursday night game. So you now have yourself a little dilemma, Kubiak or the Broncos. My brother and I are taking that Friday off and tailgating Thursday as soon as the gates open.

Also a side note, I read an article in the Houston Business Journal the other day that ranked Houston number 3 city when it comes to tailgating for NFL games. I believe the order was Denver at #1, Cinncy at #2 and Houston at #3.

Nothing says “healthy smack talk” like criticizing manners ... good grief.

>> Don’t be a bad sport. It’s supposed to be fun. You give your team’s fans a bad name when you act all snarky like that.

Who’s being snarky or “a bad sport”? It was just a little friendly smack-talk between Texas football fans. Little sensitive there.

Like I said, I’m a Texans fan when they’re not playing the Cowboys. Also - it was a factual statement that the defeat of Dallas on opening day was previously the highlight of the franchise ... the Houston Chronicle said as much in the Monday paper.

>> So, it was a little humiliating. It was five years ago. Time to move on.

Who’s humiliated? Apparently you’re taking this more seriously than I am. I harbor no ill-will or disdain for the Texans or Texans fans. It was a joke.

We were actually pretty close in 1993 (or was it 1992?). Cowboys beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship ... Oilers fell apart and blew a huge lead to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship.

*sighs* I know. Forget the players. Kubiak versus Shanahan. It's gonna be a wild one. Even Shanahan admits the pupil has excelled to the level of the master. I still have to support my Broncos, but I'm not betting they can beat Gary at home.

That you didn't ping me to when I was the one asking the question.

I guess manners are a part of my life and something you suspend in "friendly trash talk." There, we differ, I suppose.

Watch Bender2 and me on the Sunday NFL threads. We get into some trash talk and manage not to get snarky. It can be done. :-)

Dude - you just derided me for saying the EXACT same thing as he said ... that the previous highlight of the Texans franchise was the Opening Day defeat of the Cowboys. Now you’re agreeing with him?

What gives?
