Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said GW Bush would like some sort of universal health care before the end of his term.
Leavitt stated that Bush will veto a Democratic plan that would add $35 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the Children's Health Insurance Program.... Leavitt also stated that Bush will urge Congress to search for a way to ensure coverage for all Americans.
"He'd like to see the larger debate begin," Leavitt said. "The very best opportunity we have may well be in the next 15 months."

‘There has to be a conservative approach or the Democrats will have the issue all to themselves.’
The last time this was attempted, in 1993, that wasn’t necessary. All that was required was noting 7% of the economy would fall under goverment control, then pointing out no other Federal Program has been ‘successful’ enough for this to be considered by intelligent people already receiving the best healthcare in the world.
If the President wants to get into this, he should go to the United Nations and ask they intervene in the war being waged by the Trial Lawyers Association against the AMA, specifically ob/gyn’s.
The doctors are being ‘massacred’. Stop the killing....of the medical profession by the John Edward’s of the world.
My health care reform proposal: pay your own damn bills.
>>>You can’t out-bid Democrats on spending, mandates, government control. Ever. <<<
Should a business be allowed to demand compensation for its services?
If a government is going to mandate that a business render services before compensation, should not that government put a system in place to assure the business that consumers will be able to pay for services rendered after they are indeed rendered?
>>>Freedom should be non-negotiable. <<<
You don’t seem so concerned about freedom when it involves hospitals and healthcare providers. Or perhaps there are instances where effective-slave labor amounts to freedom?
Fill me in.
With a Republican in the white house, the headline should read “President Wants to End Department of Health and Human Services Before he Leaves Office.”
I agree. I was just answering one of the posters questions. That is all. I can’t have BDS because I am in the military. I have to like the President regardless of personal feelings.
Nor will he give up on his other globalist agendas, from the Law of the Sea Treaty [Terminated with prejudice by Reagan, but revived under HWBush and Xlinton, and W] and the N.A.U.'s elements being pushed piece-meal by the Rats, RINOs and W...
No, you misunderstood. The Bush conservative approach was STRICTLY a tax policy that provided people the ability to make their own choices. Credits and deductions would be provided based on the choices made by the people. There would be no new government bureaucracy.
Look at this carefully. Bush’s SOTU proposal is the ONLY counter on the conservative side to the Democrat government control plans for universal health coverage.
Hmmmm. Okay, I will do so. thanks.
Many folks choose not to get insurance and they spend money on cigarettes. Go figure. Th rich can pay for hospital bills themselves. However, there are many folks who cannot get health insurance due to pre-existing conditions or the cost of insurance is prohibitive.
I think it is good to engage in debate about this issue but I do not want socialized medicine. The doctors would see 2 patients per hour — govt work, after all. It would take 6 months to see a doctor.
Our country has a hx of being inovative. Maybe some genius could figure out a private way to accomplish medical care for all.
You can still post a snippet and the link from the source so we can go there and read the full article.
There's only one party in DC. "Republican vs. Democrat" is just a puppet show.

“Well there’s a bright side here, anyway.”
That’s true but the problem is that we have a Children’s Health Insurance Program. Instead of arguing about how much to fund it, the president should be battling with congress over getting rid of it.
Please don't demogogue. We get enough of that from the MSM.
He’s just being consistent. Stabbing the base in the front.
