Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said GW Bush would like some sort of universal health care before the end of his term.
Leavitt stated that Bush will veto a Democratic plan that would add $35 billion in taxpayer subsidies to the Children's Health Insurance Program.... Leavitt also stated that Bush will urge Congress to search for a way to ensure coverage for all Americans.
"He'd like to see the larger debate begin," Leavitt said. "The very best opportunity we have may well be in the next 15 months."

you should provide links to the source accounts which you have edited and reworded. why did you need to edit and reword?
Freedom should be non-negotiable. We cannot ever sustain the position of Freedom by giving up just a little bit of it. The Libs will always take what's on offer, and use it as a justification for taking EVERYTHING!
THANKS MITT!
Also, I lol’d at all the gullible and indignant people on this thread.
Ya’ll would probably believe me if I said W ate babies with Sweet Baby Ray’s bbq sauce and said it’s true cuz I read it on the internet somewhere.
Please grow some skepticism.
I’m not voting for him, but I liked something Romney said... that we’ve let the Dems frame the debate for education, health care, the environment (for a long time now) - and it’s time to reclaim that. I guess Bush doesn’t agree.
This is Bushs' attempt to steal her thunder, and propose a scaled back version of what the WH may see as an eventual "sure thing"....one way or another.
Please do not edit on your own and take things out of context.
What by mimicking what the Democrats do?
As PJ O'Rourke says, "Republicans are the party that says that 'government doesn't work,' then they get elected and prove it.
Would this be before or after he backdoors amnesty for illegals?
The moral of the story is clear, for those who aren’t stupid enough to be behold to a single political party.
And look how well that turned out.

“Has he gone to the dark side?”
Is that a rhetorical question?
Democratic plan that adds $35 B? Hillary just announced that her plan would cost $110 B...
but Bush? Has he gone to the dark side?
Yes because President Bush’s plan could become reality. Hillary is just running for President so she could be stopped. President Bush could make this real for us before he leaves. So who is on the dark side????????????????
Nonsense.
People, settle down. He proposed this in the State of the Union message. Tax policy would be the mechanism and it was a very interesting idea — and one that FINALLY provides a conservative approach to spiking US medical costs.
There has to be a conservative approach or the Democrats will have the issue all to themselves.
Can’t find any sources on this.
Lookie here, we have a winner. :)
Drudge has a title about it.
Before you descend into full BDS mode, why don’t you make sure this is even true first. There was no link provided to the source of this information and the poster has had ample opportunity to correct that, but hasn’t. Good grief people...
We have universal healthcare. Anyone can get healthcare and I havent heard of anyone not being able to. Call it what it is. Socialized Health Insurance run by the same people who the looney left says we cant take proper care of our soldiers. Go figure.
Drudge now has a link to one source....USA Today...which is not permitted to be posted here, due to “Copywrite complaint”
