GETTING OFF BOOZE (or DRUGS)
self | September 16, 2007 | RobFromGa

Posted on 09/16/2007 5:30:25 AM PDT by RobFromGa

I have had a few FReepermails from people lately that are ready to deal with their addiction problems and want to quit but it is challenging.

I can't post details but do they really matter anyway? Anyone that has been there knows the feelings that are provoked by the thought of quitting. And the deal-making behavior that we try in order to be able to continue to consume.

I myself will be 4 years sober on October 8, and I appreciate all the help that I got along the way, and continue to get.

I am asking the Recovery community to psot their messages of encouragement and to give useful advice to our fellow human being that might be on the cusp of quitting and who need our best advice.

What would you tell a friend that asked you:

I want to quit booze (or drugs), I really do, but I need help...

Thanks in advance for your great advice...

Note: If you are just going to be negative, please find another thread to post on, please.

I’m coming up on 17 years on December 3rd, I’ve never had it so good!

Congratulations on 3 days! I remember so well my third day because I was told all the liquor was out of my system after 3 days. Get ready for the roller coaster and hang on tight. Those of us who are sober have been there and know what you are going through. Remember you don’t have to do this alone. Good luck and God bless!

Congratulations Billy.

Go to meetings.

Get a sponsor.

Ask for help to stay sober 1 day at a time. When need be, ask for help 1 hour at a time.

We’re all looking forward to hearing from you again!

Good luck with helping your brother.

Don’t be discouraged if he’s “not ready yet”. At least your efforts will help in planting the seed.

PatriotEdition, here's to another day sober. Here's my suggestion similar to 2111USMC's:

* Don't drink.
* Go to a meeting TODAY, and put your hand up.
* Get yourself a meeting schedule, and find your next meeting.

Believe it or not, you will be helping others stay sober by doing this.

my journey into a better life.

Today should be one week for you, I pray you've made it.
If not pick your self up and start again. Do not badger yourself, you can do it.

It is a better life. I'm going on 11 years now.

A big plus is you can now drive at night and not worry about getting caught. There's a whole new world out there I hadn't been part of for a long time.

Good Luck, your in my prayers.
