Hezbollah admirer arrested near Detroit
Lebanese medical student Houssein Zorkot was arrested by police near Detroit, Michigan, and found to have a loaded AK-47 assault rifle in his possession. An admirer of the Hezbollah terrorist organization, Zorkot now faces weapons charges.
Dearborn, Michigan, police authorities are investigating what may have inspired Houssein A. Zorkot, a third-year medical student at nearby Wayne State University, to carry an AK-47 assault rifle to a public park on the evening of September 8. Police arrested Zorkot after struggling with the 26-year-old. According to WXYZ-TV reporter Glenn Zimmerman, Houssein was tasered by the arresting officers at Hemlock Park in the suburbs of Detroit when they were summoned to investigate. Houssein was found at night wearing dark clothes and camouflage makeup.
Houssein, a native of Lebanon, remains in custody under a $1million bond and is charged with firearms violations. He will face a hearing on September 21.
Zorkot maintains a website in which he offers photos of himself and family members in Lebanon, along with photos of the now-deceased Iranian strongman and Muslim mullah, the Ayatollah Ruhallah Khomeini, as well as leaders of the Hezbollah terrorist organization. On the website, Houssein describes himself as a medical student and includes photos apparently taken in Michigan. Houssein says on his website that The role of a medical doctor is to heal, to understand, and to not only sympathize but also to embody a great deal of empathy towards his patients. He identifies his heroes as the Prophet Mohammed, Imam Ali, and the Imam Husain: the heroes of Shia Islam.
Based in Lebanon, Hezbollah draws support from adherents of Shia Islam as well as the state of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Hezbollah has been blamed for numerous terror attacks against US, French, and Israeli targets. For example, the 1983 Beirut bombing attacks that killed 300 US and French peacekeeping troops, as well as the 1994 bombing of a Jewish cultural center in Argentina that killed 84 civilian men, women, and children.
Dearborn police Chief Michael Celeski verified to the WXYZ reporter that Houssein was indeed bearing an AK-47 firearm, and wearing dark clothing. Celeski also confirmed that FBI investigators are now looking into the case as well. Dearborn mayor John B. OReilly, Jr. issued a statement in which he asked that all questions about the case be sent directly to his office so the public should not draw any conclusions over the proximity of the arrest to the sixth anniversary of the 9/11 Muslim terrorist attacks. Dearborn is home to one of the largest communities of Muslims in the United States.
The AK-47 was developed in the aftermath of the Second World War in Russia and has seen been used by armies and terrorists around the world. The AK-47 or Kalashnikov after its Russian inventor is capable of firing 600 lethal rounds per minute at ranges exceeding 400 yards. The lethality of the AK-47 is not common among typical hunting rifles, for example. The flag of Hezbollah bears a fist raising aloft an AK-47.
Don’t bother with due process, this guy is from Lebanon. Ship him back there and see how he does in his “homeland”.
There ain’t no Wayne State in Jihadi Land...
so this is the story fox news was too busy to report on. I feel this was way more important than OJ, a smelly smoker getting fired, and young man getting gummed by a nurse shark. all got LOTS of coverage today. I think they spent 1 minute on this story.
“”police authorities are investigating what may have inspired HOUSSEIN A. Zorkot . . to carry an AK-47 assault rifle to a public park”
. . . photos of himself and family members in Lebanon, along with photos of the now-deceased Iranian strongman and Muslim mullah, the Ayatollah Ruhallah Khomeini, as well as leaders of the Hezbollah terrorist organization.
“He identifies his heroes as the Prophet Mohammed, Imam Ali, and the Imam Husain: the heroes of Shia Islam.”
I think I can help the police with their investigation.
Another stupid reporter. Nobody is going to fire 600 lethal rounds in a minute in excess of 400 yards from an AK. Depending on how the weapons are employed, the typical hunting rifle can be far more lethal than the AK.
Willfully promoting a terrorist organization of course is no grounds for retention.
Lets focus on the guns.
They are easier to prosecute for they aren't capable of decisive thinking.
“Hezbollah admirer arrested near Detroit”
“admirer”...great choice of word!
“The lethality of the AK-47 is not common among typical hunting rifles, for example.”
But it does OK when you’re hunting humans.
Didn’t the guy that killed the group of hunters (in WI?) use an AK-47?
Alas, it doesn't have to be fact, it just has to be news.
Osama now has been renamed Usama.
Fact?
No
News?
Yes
Pretty soon, we’re going to be hearing from the media that he loves his mother, is kind to children and small animals, volunteers in the community, and is a general all around nice guy.
The fact that he is a jihadist consumed with hatred for America will be conveniently ignored.
This guy should be duck taped to the gun barrel of an Israeli tank.
No. He used an SKS.
Didn’t Hizb Allah take responsibility for the Marine barrack building truck bombing in Lebanon back in the 80’s? This guy needs a blanket party given in his honor by about 3 or 4 marines.
Working up to spontaneous jihad..
True. But I'd rather have my .25-06 bolt action than an AK-47, if it came to that.
Yeas, and I bet his AK was semiauto anyway.
Yes, Hezbollah (Hizb Allah) did take responsibility for it. We were about to launch a serious attack on their main base in Lebanon, where it was planned and the truck bomb was prepared, but Reagan pulled the plug on the attack literally at the last minute. A short time later French jets came in and bombed the place.
It’s one of the few times I ever disagreed with anything Reagan did.
Looks like some shoddy police work here. If they could hit him with a taser, they could have hit him with a .45 caliber just as easy.
