Ron Paul 60 Minutes and Bill O'Reilly Appearances Could Slash Odds Further

At 8 to 1 odds of becoming the next US President, Republican Ron Paul must be a happy camper.  Too bad the mainstream media hasn't quite picked up on his grass roots popularity just yet though.

But good news has come to the Ron Paul camp.  Media sources have been abuzz all day long Monday of the 60 Minutes camera crew arriving at Ron Paul's Washington office early in the morning.  Whether there will be a story on Dr. Paul or simply a general segment on the Presidential candidates as a whole remains to be seen.

The Free Market News Network claims that "Media has exploded for Ron Paul since his breakthrough debate with Mike Huckabee over the war in Iraq."  This debate occurred just a few days ago but garnered Paul plenty of national attention to be sure. 

CNN remains in negotiations for a Ron Paul (R-Tex) debate with Mike Huckabee and negotiations over the candidate's appearance on O'Reilly tonight appear to have been worked out, as Ron Paul's own website announced this morning. O'Reilly's site carries the following: "Showdown Over Iraq: Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul goes head-to-head with Bill." Stay tuned.

Bill O'Reilly's television program is the most popular network news show.

8:1 I think is based off the number of candidates. They seem to be giving each of them an equal chance of winning. Bad statistics! Err, are there 8 of them?

I do remember the days when Constitutional government was a core Republican issue.

Um, that's outdated you know. It's been replaced by desire for war. Any war. Any size. I believe they're trying to relive the glory days of Reagan, although Reagan realized the futility of the ME situation as well. And if and when the Democrats decide to send an expeditionary force to Darfur in a few years, they'll have no place to complain.

There may be wailing and gnashing of teeth, but it won't be because of guilt over having granted the executive too much power; it'll be because the other party's candidate is in the Oval Office instead of theirs.

The big-government Republicans won't remember having handed Hillary the big guns any more than Democrats can remember Maddy Albright rattling on about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.

All these country-club Republicans (the very ones who spend massive amounts of time and energy running down Paul as a kook with no chance of winning, and lie awake at night trembling at the thought he might actually win) could make the whole Ron Paul phenomenon dry up and blow away overnight, if they would only do one simple thing:

RUN A CANDIDATE WHO WILL ADVANCE A CONSERVATIVE AGENDA.

You know, limited government spending, limited government powers, federalism, constitutional law...the kind of thing Republicans are supposed to believe in.

Yeah, he's for smaller government as long as he gets his $400 million in earmarks first. I know, I know, he's really against this corrupt and clandestine method of pork barrel spending added to bills after debate is over. He only does it because everyone else is and he wants to ensure his constituents get their fair share. How many terms has he served?

But, tell me, is that how small a government constitutionalist should behave? Maybe we just don't understand that he's nuanced and votes for the pork before he votes against it. That sounds familiar. Or, maybe, he just has his followers duped.

Gambling911.com is a site with an obvious interest in Paul winning. It's not that they care anything about Iraq one way or the other, but that Paul would legalize gambling and get rid of the recent online gambling restrictions.
