Mrs. Trooprally called me this evening to tell me that she and her husband, as well as Concretebob, saw damage along almost the entire length of the Vietnam Memorial Wall. They found this damage this morning, when they walked through the area before participating in the September 11th Freedom Walk.
Concretebob was told by a National Park Service employee that the damage was done on Friday night. There was no police report taken or written about the vandalism, apparently. And the damage was still very much there today.
Here are a few of the photos that Mrs. Trooprally took this morning...
This first one is not so noticeable, but as they walked into the center, it got worse.
It looks like the person who did this walked along The Wall with some type of container, perhaps hidden at their side so that they could squirt the oily substance without being caught in the act.
The names along the lower part of The Wall appear to have taken the brunt of the damage.
Because of the reflective nature of The Wall, Mrs. Trooprally had a tough time capturing the extent of the damage. Mr. Trooprally said that the oily substance has discolored the shiny stone, but that it has been absorbed into the more porous area where the names are etched into The Wall.

BTTT (thank goodness!)
This is the kind of destruction that the Black Blok does as well as some of the other socialists who protest for the left. This is a perfect example of the cowardice that these lowly, disgusting, scumbags perceive as a means to get attention. Not a one of these punks has the guts to serve.
Lessee if Brit’s staff read the email I sent. He’s on now. Well... here, anyhow.
“spend the rest of their lives suffering with a wounded conscience..” I’d like to wound something else on them!
“maybe someone had walked their dog there and allowed / encouraged it to urinate on the monument”
That was my first impression also. The height of the “markings” offer no other conclusion. And, yes, dog urine feels oily.
Nope. Not a word.
Urine oil is possible, but in small quantities.
It was found out today that the “substance” was also on the two Memorial Statues at the WALL. That’s a good bladder if you are correct.
tgslTakoma has taken a video of all three sites. Hopefully it will be up tonight.

A weed-eater, lawnmower, edger, any piece of landscaping equipment would follow (parallel, if you prefer) the wall from beginning to end. I do not think that any sane person would claim that all the observed spatter came from one fixed location.
Further they have been doing maintenance around the wall for years and this just happens now?
Who says it never happened before? There wasn't a blogosphere a few years ago. So if there was an unidentified mess on the wall, they'd just spray it with dish soap and hose it off. It wasn't an issue. just some stuff that happened.
Back to the issue of credulity: it's absurd that a motorized lawn machine could leave that kind of stain pattern over that distance, but obvious that a kid in a hoodie and a pair of Doc Martens could pull it off undetected in the middle of the night? Come on.
Takoma said the the oil on the Nurses Statue was up and down the Statue.
I really don’t buy the landscaping machinery oil theory.
And the Park Service was doing their best to remove it this morning. [Mr] T
My thoughts also.
My German shephard ate ten pounds of wax while sleeping in the garage one (ten below) night. My (late) dad told me we should feed him some string so he can make candles...
My dogs pee on the cement, and there’s nothing but a wet spot. Maybe I should be putting more oil in their diet? I guess the weed whackers that Americans wouldn’t run did this... nothing to see here folks. Move along.
See my Post 272.

I have been to the Memorial at night and nobody was running a weed eater.
How many other sites of vandalism are you going to blame on lawn equipment?
Why are you defending this desecration?
If we got someone in Houston, please swing by and peel me off the ceiling.
I have been to the memorial at night and no one was defacing it with a squirt bottle. Therefore the discoloration observed bust have been spittle by mutant lizards from planet twelve.
How many other sites of vandalism are you going to blame on lawn equipment?
I'm blaming nothing on anyone. And "vandalism" assumes facts not in evidence.
Why are you defending this desecration?
I' not defending anything. If this was an intentional act, than nail the person who did it. But "desecration" assumes facts not in evidence.
I call them traitors. And if folks don't like being called a traitor, then they shouldn't give me a dang reason to do so.
Now, why would someone do this? I don't care. Because for me to answer that one, I would have to remove 90% of my brain, my spine, and my manhood. I aint willing to do that.
Having walked the length of the Memorial more than once I can only say that it would take a dog with one heck of a bladder!
