RE: Mitt -- "there is something about him that gives me pause and I can’t put my finger on it either."

Me too, Laverne. He's clearly the best problems solver but he seems to think too much before speaking. He's really careful with what he says, and I sometmes don't feel I'm hearing his true feelings. I'd like to hear it from the hip.

Does that about sum it up?

Jay Leno had a bigger audience the night Fred announced on his show than the Republican Debate did on Fox.

For what it's worth, I have met many members of the Church (LDS), whose family life is also 'perfect.' It may be that their living system works better than most.

I stand open to correction because my observations are anecdotal, but in addition to avoiding alcohol, tobacco and caffeine, to attending to church duties many times weekly and to tithing 10%, members are rarely if ever recipients of government welfare in any form.

Durbin: J’Accuse
Dick Durbin says Iraq report bogus, falsified [link]

According to Durbin

General David Petraeus is expected to testify before Congress on the rosy progress of the troop “surge” in Iraq on Tuesday despite the overwhelming evidence that the “surge” has been a failure and the civil war in Iraq is out of control.
Durbin also maintains he has email correspondence with civilian employees gathering data for Petraeus’ report that

…when they sent a discouraging report about things that were happening in Baghdad, they were reminded by their superiors that’s unacceptable; we need a positive report. They were sent back for editing changes. Now that’s a fact,” Durbin said.
So, in effect, Dick Durbin is accusing Gen. Petraeus of being dishonest; a deliberate deceiver.

Pretty strong stuff, Dick. You better have your facts straight.

Will you please answer my question?
Jay Leno may have 6 million viewers but one appearance on a late night talk show does not make a LEGITIMATE candidate.
Other than the fan fare on Free Republic, the hit pieces by the MSM and the exposure from Sean Hannity, I don’t really know a damn thing about Fred Thompson. His whole demeanor regarding his bid for the president has been in the shadows staying “safe” one appearance on Jay Leno.
Is that it? He announces on Leno then returns to stealth mode? Are you suggesting the average American voter (who couln’t name the sectary of state) will have the motivation to actually research Thompson? I consider myself politically engaged and like I said I really can’t tell you too damn much about the great white Fred. Its annoying. P.S. I know I will receive lots of links to Fred’s website but, I’m talking about the general population...When exactly will we actually hear from Fred himself? Or does he expect all the voters to elect him by text message? (sarc)

I think that there is still an element that the ordinary working man wants a leader to look a leader and that is my concern over Fred Thompson.

When W needs to be he can look and act Presidential can Thompson maybe but he needs to soon start showing he can.

Blair when he first came to power played this card perfectly giving the ordinary working man and women in Britain the feeling that some of substance and importance was in control without being over powering and classiest. There is an element though certainly in Britain that we want our leaders to be slightly apart from us and different not just one of the ordinary folk.

Like the house in Vegas, DiFi has the table covered. Her husband, Richard Blum, is the major investor in URS Corp. and Perini Corp., both in the top five American defense contractors in Iraq. She approved these contracts while sitting as Chairperson of Military appropriations Construction subcommittee without recusing herself or even disclosing her conflicts. Hello, Alas! I was stopping by to see how everyone was doing and to read the comments. Thank you very much for your post about September 11.

I haven't forgotten, either. I will be visiting FR on September 11 because of how much we all share from that day, and to participate in the commemorative threads.

This is not the elections from when we were kids.

We’re dealing with a society that thinks what’s reported on The Daily Show is legitimate factual news.

Gone are the days that candidates are made and broken with an interview with Cronkite or Chancellor or Brinkley.

For one the internet has taken away the hold on news that the networks used to have...and secondly people today don’t trust the MSM.

The other thing you have to realize is that this Presidential election cycle has started almost a year earlier than any other in history.

The Dems and the MSM purposely started this one early to try and gain an advantage. Which also explains why you see primary elections happening earlier than ever before.

When Sen. Thompson announced is the TRADITIONAL time that most presidential candidates announce they are running.

Fred didn’t start late...the others started way early.

Mr Thompson has already been speaking to the public via his website and a daily radio spot on ABC radio networks.

Don’t fall for the typical he’s an actor crap you will hear from some people.

He was an Asst. U.S. Attorney...an investigator for the Republicans during Watergate...a successful attorney that has fought for the people in corruption cases and a U.S. Senator.

He is for border security...a strong military...pro 2nd Amendment...pro WoT and against out of control gov’t spending.

Fred will run this electiona s he sees fit...not the way the Media and Liberals think he should run it.

No, I'm sorry Johnnie, but I don't know anything specific about Iranian money. I do remember that her campaign "accidentally" listed a contribution from the American Muslim Society as the American Museum Society. I'm quite certain it was just another of those little bureaucratic SNAFUs we all remember so well.

I'm pretty sure she also got money from CAIR too.

Per favore, would you ping me if somebody has a link to Mullah Connection. Thanks.

There is a level of unbelievability in what he says, at least to me. It could be because he says what he thinks we want to hear, rather than what he really means. Again, I’m just not certain what it is, but there is something about him that bothers me. The comment he made about his sons was awful, and even though he apologized, it was a major gaffe for him. He does seem awfully scripted and he isn’t clicking with many. I guess ts the lack of trustworthiness for me, I just don’t know if I believe him. Much uncertainty.

I’m looking forward to seeing/hearing more from Fred...but in the end, it won’t matter, whoever gets the republican nominee will get my vote.

Putting in a democrat president in these times would be the death knell for this country, imho.

“And now Bobby Boy is considering running for Senator. If the Republican candidate has enough guts, Hsu should be a major issue. Even if the drive bys try to suffocate it, it should appear in campaign ads right there in the middle of the ‘08 campaign.”

~~~~~~~
RIGHT!
Let’s not forget this Mr. Kerrey, head of the leftist New World School, recipient of questionable “funds” from drop-the-other Hsu and the ChiCom’s favorite technology-transfer patron, Loral’s Bernard Schwartz, and who (as did other notable “connected” operatives) went on the public record to announce his chagrin at Bubba’s propensity for ego-feeding fabrication.
```````

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NWRjNTY4MWQ1ZjQwZWNlYTc0N2FmOTA3MzcxYmMxYjU=

“Former White House press secretary Mike McCurry noted, according to Howard Kurtz, “The White House lies about everything; our credibility is zero.”

Democrat Bob Kerrey said, “Clinton’s an unusually good liar. Unusually good.”

Barney Frank, one of the president’s most vociferous defenders, lamented that he wished the president just “would stop” lying.

The New York Times was vexed by the president’s “mysterious passion for lying” and penchant for “lying about his lies.”

About the president’s tendency to lie, Robert Reich regretted “not simply the fact of it ... but its passionate intensity.”

The New Republic’s Andrew Sullivan noted of Bill Clinton that “from the beginning, Clinton has lied with indiscriminate abandon. He has lied about genocide and he has lied about his golf scores.”

He adds, “Every label he has attached to himself, every public position he has taken, has smacked of opportunism, not conviction, self-interested deceit, not public-interested candor.”

```````
And this Kerrey (though he is a respected Viet Nam war hero amputee) actually thinks he’d escape scrutiny and would dare to brave the hustings and run for Senate and risk all his “connections” to the Rat Kickback Machine being revealed ?
And make no mistake about it: this IS a massive Rat Kickback Machine.
They’re so bereft of real political savvy, decency, an obvious inspiring love of country or appealing personalities, it’s the only way they can achieve ANYthing.
I somehow believe he’ll reconsider .... he’s been Swift-Hsu-ed now.
***********************
Point to ponder: what kind of “WOMAN” would it take to be so needy, so unscrupulous, power-driven and deceptive herself as to settle for and KEEP a consistently documented operational and functional, sociopathically devout liar as any kind of mate?
And to have to have (and pay dearly for) war room teams and “hit” sqads on duty 24/7 spinning to deal with natural subsequent chaos ?
THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET ! A blessing, if we can keep it (away from the “fairness” doctrinaires).
