A Major Confrontation With A Wacko Liberal

Posted on 09/08/2007 9:57:37 PM PDT by finch

We relax by taking our dog to the local dog park and chat with others who bring their dogs. Today, a man sat across from us and began his tirade about the government's conspiracy in blowing up the World Trade Center.

I've heard this before so just nodded and let him continue. His history lesson finally caused me to jump in. He believes that Iran is really our friend and that George Bush is only attempting to gain an excuse to use a nuke.

I then interjected that the current leader of Iran is a believer of the 12th Iman, he didn't have a clue. When I tried to explain his belief of the end of the world, he stated that Iran is our friend and Bush is the believer of Ammagedon.

When I suggested he read "The Looming Tower", and that it just received the Pulitzer, he referred me to the BBC.

The conversation was not heated until I mentioned Clinton's disregard for people, namely women. He jumped up, spit out "who cares, Bush wants to murder people throughout the world", ran out of the park, leaving his wife and his dog.

My friend was extremely upset. He said that my citing sources intiminated the guy. And, that I should refrain from expressing my strong opinions.

I would like to hear from others as to how you would handle a situation like this.

The Miss Manners of murder? Yeah, that’s seriously funny! I’ve got tears running down my face! You’re killin’ me here!

The germ of a great put-down:

“I’d try to change your mind, but you’d have to go and find it first.”

Actually, KG9kid is using Esquire prose, not Miss Manners, now that I read a bit closer.

I'm an big fan of both.

Leftists doesn’t think in terms of facts only feelings. I know this is hard but try to get them to think about the issue. I had a group of about 5 hard core libs they were in the middle of protesting against us right wing nut jobs that were pro immigration actually agreeing with me.

In my case: I picked the most vocal one of their group and talked with her directly. They where saying their usual trash, and I said: “OK I am a conservative. Lets pretend just you and I are leading this country. I ask her, how many immigrants you want in this country? You pick the number any number and we will enforce that number. She said, ‘no limit.’ I said, I will not agree to that number so pick a number any number and we will enforce it.” In the end I said, the US government has a number and it isn’t enforced. If you would like to raise that number that is fine talk with me.

She never gave a number but they all fully understood me and nearly all of them were saying you have a good point.

Two OLD ladies were in a restaurant prior to the 2004 elections. One was pontificating that Cheney was EVIL that, “he was Haliburton” and that Iraq was about oil. The other lady was timid and lacked eloquence, but obviously favored bush and the US invasion against Saddam. The first lady derided her for not watching CNN. I about lost my breakfast.

I know a friend that is saying Bush is in bed with Bin Laden and his whole family. He then half jokingly says Osama Bin Laden is most likely at the Crawford ranch.

It is true that Bush has helped out the Bin Laden family and I think that was the right thing to do. But when someone goes as far as saying Osama (or in your case Iran) is Bush’s friend all I can do is laugh at him.

...I’d let the dog go on its way...

Yet you'd probably have a more coherent discussion with the dog than its owner.

He probably thought this was going to happen from past experiences at being an idiot and that is why he ran out of the park.

I'd probably respond with "you really believe that nonsense? What a moron you are!" and start laughing out loud.

LOL I’ve had my share of arguments with liberals, especially over the past year, as I’ve grown more interested in politics. Remain calm, and use logic and sources. They will get furious, cuss you out, personally insult you, and say your sources are biased or not worth while (even if they are liberal sources). Of course, they rarely produce sources of their own. It’s tough, but try to remain calm as they blow a gasket.

“Citing sources” wasn’t the problem..they just come up with bogus ones in the MSM like he did. It was speaking the truth about Clinton that broke his back.

You can't use reason and logic with a fanatic. They have no place in their world. Harsh encounters with reality only serve to frighten and intimidate them as you saw.

Think of it like telling a 5YO there's no "Santa Claus" the day before Christmas after building him up the entire Christmas season.

Proving that President Bush isn't "the boogieman" has pretty much the same effect.

About 11 years ago I got into a conversation with a lib neighbor (Sociology Prof to boot) about welfare reform. It grew more and more heated (he opposed it of course) until I suggested that poor people should move if they can't find work here.

Then it went incandescent. He was outraged -- we haven't spoken since. Pass each other on the street as if we'd never been introduced. It's nice.

I would of done the same thing you did, and explain to your “friend”, that you were offended by his moronic view, and too bad if the traitor can’t handle the facts.. and if stupid people would keep their mouths shut..they wouldn’t have to be corrected. If your “friend” dosen’t like that...F’em!!!

"He was outraged -- we haven't spoken since. Pass each other on the street as if we'd never been introduced"

I had a a dufus show up at my door during the last election cycle who was raising money for MoveOn.Org

He looked like Allen Colmes and Trotsky's baby. I let him have it with "Soros is a convicted criminal" and that MoveOn was created to protect another criminal, Bill Clinton. Then I told him to get the hell off of my property and to stay out of the neighborhood. He looked genuinely scared and confused. I found out about the confusion part the next Saturday at our annual block party. Turns out he lives two doors down from me. The doofus also is the guy that shows you to the polling booth at our local precinct.
