But our society, while declining to profile by race or nationality when it comes to crime and terrorism, has become nonchalant about profiling men. Child advocates are advising parents never to hire male babysitters. Airlines are placing unaccompanied minors with female passengers.

I used to have this plan in the back of my head, to build a home of my own. It would have been a subteranian home, with a living room up top where you could look out a long picture window, across the lawn. As part of this I thought it would be great to have playground equipment out there for the neighbor kids to enjoy. I used to enjoy parks when I was a kid. I just thought it would bring live to the front yard, something I’d walk buy and take note off once in a while.
As you say, the legal exposure would be significant. You’d have to take out a good policy to cover anyone that got hurt. You’d also have to overcome the fears of the neighbors.
One way to do that might be to hold an open house so they could get to know you. Then you could have some gatherings where parents could sit and talk to you in the living room while they kept an eye on the children playing out front.
As long as you encouraged parents to be a part of the enjoyment of the small park on your lawn, I don’t think they’d be as inclined to think you were pulling a fast one.
You could provide some seats and tables on the side where they could do some paperwork or crafts while their kids played.

I wouldn’t hire a male sitter, unless he was a trusted family member.
One time in a walmart restroom there was a little boy having trouble washing and drying his hands, so I picked him up so he could do it. Then he left.
When I came out his mother was putting him in a cart. He saw me, pointed and shouted, “There’s the mad that did it!”
Obviously I was mortified and didn’t stick around to see the results.
I won’t help a child alone like that again except in an emergency.
I believe that I’ve read here where more women kill their husbands than men kill their wives. I believe that is true, and the media completely misrepresents this all the time.

I fear you’re going to take a beating for your sad, but unfortunately very true statement.
I would tell my granddaughter if given a choice, she should choose a female of any age over a male of any age should she require assistance from a stranger. Although I’d discourage seeking anything from a stranger but given an unusual scenario as I’m sure you understand.
Most crimes against children, against women and against men are committed by men. I’d even go out on a limb and suggest that even the gentle homosexual male will abuse a young boy if of that bent.
Hey, one of the problems with having a penis is that you fall in that demographic which includes the vast majority of criminals.
It’s just the way it is. Doesn’t mean everyone with a penis is a criminal, of course not. But common sense dictates you play the odds.
Once ANYONE is labeled as suspicious they are guilty until they can prove otherwise. And it is not going to be me!

It gives me the creeps to even think that there are actually predators out there who would hurt my kids, and the children of others if they were not restrained.
I got no solutions, but I have to say that vigilance is necessary in this complex sheithole that we find ourselves in.
The men here are simply venting about how we are assumed to be guilty of something just by living and breathing, and how it forces them to withdraw from life and society.

Your statement is not true. Based on statistics, more men kill their wives than women kill their husband. Someone led you down a wrong path.
However, the gap between the two is a whole lot smaller than most people think.
Sounds great. Until you chewed out one kid for being an idiot, and to pay you back he claimed you exposed yourself.
Or some kid fell out of of one of your playground items, broke his neck, became a quadraplegic, and his parents sued you into oblivion.
