These days, if Rian Romoli accidentally bumps into a child, he quickly raises his hands above his shoulders. "I don't want to give even the slightest indication that any inadvertent touching occurred," says Mr. Romoli, an economist in La Cañada Flintridge, Calif.
Ted Wallis, a doctor in Austin, Texas, recently came upon a lost child in tears in a mall. His first instinct was to help, but he feared people might consider him a predator. He walked away. "Being male," he explains, "I am guilty until proven innocent."
In San Diego, retiree Ralph Castro says he won't allow himself to be alone with a child -- even in an elevator.

I think there are quite a few female molestors, it just doesn’t get reported much. Note all the teachers with students... That kind of thing has been going on forever, but until recently no charges were filed.
“Do you want to be blamed for every feminazi freak lesbian witch out there? Do you want to be stereotyped with them?”
LOL!
Did you notice how quickly I was accused of being a member of NOW (as if NOW women hang out on THIS forum!)
“The men here are simply venting about how we are assumed to be guilty of something just by living and breathing, and how it forces them to withdraw from life and society”
That is not all that was being vented about.
It was being vented that it is an issue of media coverage.
well...the media is only reporting what is true...that men are more likely to abuse kids.
If that weren’t true, the media wouldn’t be reporting it, and then you fellows wouldn’t have so much to vent about.
Instead of venting about the violent perverts and freaks that give good men a hard time - you guys are blaming it on the women.
“People like you are the problem and the reason for this. Im absolutely sick of your kind.”
Oh dear...a drama king.
I worked in a "home office" for a year or so, and the couple had two girls something like 9 & 11. Once (and only once) the wife mentioned that she was going to make a Wally World run and just leave the kids with me.
It didn't happen...and the situ never arose again.
“Oh..I thought it was because the great majority of sexual and physical abuse, kidnapping, and murders committed against children are committed by me”
Ahhh so men are evil. Thank you for clarifying the issue.
So, you're calling us children, huh? :-)
“.Could it be 1%....or 5%...or 20%? Whatever it is it’s certainly not 100%.”
I never claimed it was.
Mommy obviously isn't too worried about baby. That's called endangerment. As with male/female domestic abuse, male violence isn't more prevalent, its more damaging, due to strength and weight.
when you factor in abortion - you are correct.
I think I'm correct without abortion. Men who throw their babies on the ground get prison, babies that accidentally drown, smother, take poison or fall while with the mother are accidents. As is born out with suicides, males choose more blunt violence, while women prefer non-bloody options.
With parental kidnapping, I would remind you that it is nearly impossible for a father to get primary custody, and when he does so it is due primarily to a very abusive mother.
Who is more likely to kidnap, rape, murder a child at random? A male. Who is best equipped to protect a child? A male.
When I was younger I was well aware that meeting me on a deserted street at night was a scary experience for a young woman. I would cross the street away from her to make her more comfortable. That said, I also knew that I was her best defense at that particular moment. And there was one particular time in my early twenties when I'm quite certain that my pulling over to help saved a woman from being assaulted, and she had three children with her.
Unless you have a way of avoiding the entire male population, I think it advisable to promote greater interaction with the good guys (the vast majority). I very much doubt that a preditor wants to deal with a father, husband or boyfriend, let alone several of them.
“I never had a babysitter who wasnt either a Grandma or Aunt.”
Was your mother a member of NOW? :)
If the vast majority of the abuse is by males then why is it that mostly female teachers are the ones busted for raping kids?
“No its because the great majority of blame comes from leftist jerks who want to (and have) immasculate the American Male.
Now live with the consequences.”
I see you don’t like to face facts.
Your choice.

In 2003, females, usually mothers, represented 58% of perpetrators of child abuse and neglect, with men composing the remaining cases. In that same year an estimated 1,500 children died of abuse or neglect. In 31% of those cases, the perpetrator was the mother acting alone, compared to 18% of fathers acting alone. Then theres the scandal of Dumpster babies. In 1998, 105 newborn infants were discovered abandoned in public places. One-third of those babies were found dead.
“And the war on men and boys continues...”
And as the mother of 4 boys I will be very careful about who I allow my boys to spend time with.
They do come in contact with many different men - at school, at athletic practices...etc...
I don't think they are. They're just higher profile in the news. In this state I can name Mary Kay LeTourneau, but no men from this state, though I seem to recall there's one up on charges right now.
The incident was about five or six years ago.
I wouldn’t do it today for nothing.
Was your mother a member of NOW? :)
I never had a baby sitter other than my mother or father.
My son never photographs a woman or a child without another person present. My husband, a pastor, never counsels a woman without someone present or they are in a public place like a restaurant.
“I think there are quite a few female molestors, it just doesnt get reported much. Note all the teachers with students... That kind of thing has been going on forever, but until recently no charges were filed.”
while the men still have the statistical upperhand, it is true the ladies are showing an upswing in the “hot teacher” phenomenon.
which I’ve noticed among some male freepers is a subject to debate whether she is “guilty” or not based on her hotness.
This seems to be upsetting to some folks here...oh well.
One thing that's funny is that the FReepers who are giving you grief for holding this view seem to be the same ones applying the exact same criteria to Muslims with regard to terrorism. ;)
