Petraeus, Seeing Gains in Iraq as Fragile, Is Wary of Cuts By DAVID E. SANGER and DAVID S. CLOUD WASHINGTON, Sept. 6 — Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top American commander in Iraq, has told President Bush that he wants to maintain heightened troop levels in Iraq well into next year to reduce the risk of military setbacks, but could accept the pullback of roughly 4,000 troops beginning in January, in part to assuage critics in Congress, according to senior administration and military officials.

Dear General,

Military expert and former POTUS, Bill Clinton disagrees with you. Please, consult with his representative, and future POTUS, Hillary! before making any more rash, uneducated responses in the future.

Respectfully,
Senator Harry Reid, (D) Nevada

Saw this one coming a mile away...no end to the 15-month deployments in sight...of course, no shortage of cheerleading keyboard commandos around here who will no doubt champion such announcements.

Posting ANYTHING from the NYT in this forum should be grounds for banning.

When Americans are officially authorized to start shooting “enemies of the Republic” or “traitors” on sight — I’ll take a very keen interest in the New York Times....
