A convicted Scottish sex offender who ran up a 140,000 kronor bill at one of Stockholm's top restaurants has said he wants to serve his sentence in Sweden.
John Cronin, from East Lothian in Scotland, is well known as a confidence trickster and sex offender in Britain and Ireland.
Earlier in August, he ran up a huge bill at Stockholm's exclusive Operakällaren restaurant, which he refused to pay. Following his arrest, police found that he had also run up a big bill at Malmö's Hotel Savoy.
Cronin's lawyer, Bengt H Nilsson, said he had no desire to serve his sentence in his homeland. "My understanding is he actually wishes to serve his sentence in Sweden," he told The Local. Asked why Cronin wanted to stay in Swedish jail, Nilsson said he did not wish to comment.
The Scot, who goes on trial next week, "will plead guilty to the charges," Nilsson said.

And.. I almost forgot to say, sex offenders are not overly popular among other inmates, not even in tolerant Sweden. Good luck on ya.
That may depend on whose sex you offend, LOL
“That may depend on whose sex you offend, LOL”
So far, I believe rampant Irish citizens on the the loose have managed to offend a total of 3 sexes throughout history.
I don’t know, no one bothers about the law anymore. We just build Volvos and consult IKEA when we wish to make use for the money we earn.

Swedish prison is just like any Swedish apartment complex, except you can’t leave and you get nothing to eat but lutefisk three meals a day.
I can think of some states whose prisons would be more appropriate. I think he’d enjoy Angola Prison in Louisiana.

Sounds like “Tar Baby” to me!
Sweden is a great place to do prison time. I read an account of their oh so gentle treatment of prisoners
I can’t figure out why the guy gets a vote.
My reference to “Tar Baby” was a mistake. It should have been Br’er Rabbit and the briar patch.

- Seriously speaking, Swedish prison food is very good from what I’ve heard (never been to a Swedish prison myself, but I’ve spoke to persons who have and read some). It’s said that this is because satisfied inmates who live well are not prone to start riots.
Swedes seldom eat lutefisk (lutfisk in proper Swedish). We eat fish alright, but today most of it is salmon, cod and all other sorts of fish you find in waters close to us.
What was for dinner with a $2200 tab?
I think you dropped a zero, and it was wine. Lots of very rare, very expensive wine.

So, now, as punishment.. he gets to run up a big bill courtesy of the Swedish taxpayers. It’s true what they say: “Justice is blind.”
If you’re into wines, you’ll enjoy this list:
