Idaho Sen. Larry Craig plans to announce his future plans Saturday following calls from Republicans urging him to resign after an arrest in connection to a police sex sting.
Dan Whiting, Craig's spokesman, said there would be an announcement Saturday but would not say whether Craig will step down. Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter already appears to have settled on a successor: Lt. Gov. Jim Risch, according to several Republicans familiar with internal deliberations.

Irrespective of the double standard, Craig should resign. The amoral and immoral Democrats re-elect such individuals...but we should send them home. The answer to the double standard is not to adopt the low, immoral, amoral standard, for then all becomes corrupt.
I pray for Craig and his family, that he will overcome his troubles and be able to hold his family together...but I no longer want him representing me. In truth, after his avid support for shamnesty, he had already lost that political support in any case.

Craig Fallout [David Freddoso]
Leaving my obvious disgust aside for a moment, my first thought on this Larry Craig bathroom thing is how rotten a job that plainclothes officer has. The second is that we may have another vacant Senate seat in a few days.
The prime candidate, in the event that Craig resigns, is Lt. Gov. Jim Risch (R), who was widely expected to run for the seat anyway. Risch stepped aside to let Butch Otter (R) take the nomination and win as governor last year. In some sense Otter left him little choice by announcing his own candidacy so early, but the perception is that it's Risch's turn now. He could even be in better shape running as the incumbent.
What do you think of this man?

Whattya think—can we hope for Lindsey Graham to have an active bladder at a rest stop anytime soon? That’d solve a lot of problems for the SC GOP.

My son lives in Idaho. My wife and I just returned from a 10 day vacation there...I love the place and would love to move there some day. Anyway...I spoke to him last night and according to my son and daughter in law, they don't know anyone who's strongly supporting Craig. They were upset with his strong, vocal support for shamnesty but this is over the top. There have been whispers, rumors and jokes about Craig for years...this sealed the deal.
I hope he announces his resignation and Gov. Otter announces his replacement and we're able to put this disgusting episode to bed.

As an Idahoan myself, I would say that your son's description is spot on. I believe either Risch or Simpson will get the nod.
On another note, regarding Idaho...here's a link to a recent trip one of my sons and I took on the Magruder Wilderness Road. Consider going up there with your son sometime.

Is there a particular strategy in making this announcement on a Saturday? Do Craig and or the RNC expect this to go away by Sunday evening?
Just curious
