Marine to sue Murtha over irresponsible Haditha accusations

Well, the Marine Corps investigator has now dropped all charges against 3 of the 8 accused Marines in the case, and only one Marine still stands accused of crimes at the scene. The others are charged with various after-the-fact issues that arose from investigations of Haditha, not the events themselves. Murtha’s aim, of course, in accusing the Marines of murder “in cold blood” was to pin the blame on Bush. But in the process of blaming Bush, he slandered those Marines.

I find for the plaintiff ... Mertha to pay by resigning his Congressional Seat ... plus millions of dollars to be decided by the plaintiff after he receives a disclosure of Martha's worth.

Gerrymandering is a unique American art form.

 

Invented in Massachusetts it is still a relevant tool for political parties to maintain their grip on Office.

 

barney frank the quick to quip jerk from the Massachusetts 4th District where he did not live in even before he did not live in Massachusetts, lives in one of the periferies of Boston and represents the fishing communities of south eastern Mssachusetts many miles away from his bath house digs.

 

Why are the seafaring communities represented by a Boston pol? Perhaps because they are too stupid to actually read, or they are too busy out  fishing to pay attention to the goings on in Washington.

That is obscene. I wish all gerrymandering could be swept away. Since that is just a fantasy, I would like to see major publicity of what has happened to American congressional districts.

State legislatures describe the Congressional districts every 10 years after the census is taken. Generally the party in power draws the districts to cripple any areas that may vote in ta heavy concentration for the minority party of that state in the year of reapportionment. In Maryland, for example where Baltimore city is about 80% democrat, it would be a waste to have all those democrat voters choose just one congressman. So the districts are drawn like the wedges of a pie, so that each district becomes 55-65% democrat and slicing up any area that might be a solid conservative suburban bloc into districts that contain no more than 35-45% registered republicans.

In 2002, one of Maryland’s Republican congressmen had his district redrawn so that his own home was not in the new district - which looked like one of Pelosi’s pop bead necklaces.

Don't get me wrong I think Murtha is a jerk yet I have a question.  How can they sue for slander if they have been cleared of all charges?  Don't or wouldn't they have to prove damages of some sort like loss of wages or some monetary damages?  From what I can see Murtha's statements while out of order really did not hurt them money wise which I think is a prerequisite for filing a slander suit.And yes I agree he should resign in fact I think they should have kicked him out of office.

It’s my understanding that gerrymandering took on a whole new dimension with the onset of the computer and electronic mapping. Once upon a time Cynthia McKinney’s district went from East Atlanta down a straight line to Savannah, a four hour drive.

Destruction of their military career doesn't count? It doesn't matter if they are cleared of ALL charges and they get a gold-plated apology from the NCIS and JAG corps. Their careers are over, from the LTC (or was he a full-bird Colonel?) right down the line.

Murtha slandered these Marines for political gain. He should pay with his own career, and more than a goodly amount of his OWN money, IMO.

Good question. I would assume a good lawyer could prove some type of mental pain and suffering. However
I do not know if Murtha has some type of immunity because the is a congressman. I would also like to see action taken against Chris Matthews. The litte weasel NEVER questioned Murtha’s accusations.
