Fred Dalton Thompson will tell his supporters that he is running for president today in a 4 p.m. conference call with 800 to 1,000 elected and party officials from around the country, a source close to the campaign said today. On the call, Thompson will detail his plans for the future, which are expected to include an appearance on Jay Leno's "Tonight Show" on Wednesday night -- even as his rivals debate on Fox -- and could be followed by a formal announcement the next day.

Sept. 6
Well, the guy sure is decisive. </sarc>
If it’s on Leno or something like it, I will be disappointed. Thompson will be running for the most important office in the World, not pushing a book or hyping a movie. Respect to the Office, the People, the Nation and the Nation’s History mandates a more appropriate setting than a comic’s TV show.
Why is he timing this for just after the debate? It makes it look like he is trying to avoid being in it.
He can’t make the announcement before September because of the showbiz contracts he’s still under - doesn’t want to a) screw over people he may have to work with later if he doesn’t win, and b) give *everyone* free equal-access time.

Maybe he is.
No I think he is on Leno Sept 5, the same day as the Republican debate.
Well, at least we know where his priorities are. Let's see, "Hollywood Crowd" or "The people of the United States"... the choice I guess is clear.
I truly, sincerely like Fred, have read many of his essays, and think he is the best hope for a real return to conservative principles for our country.
But this crap is getting old.
“But this crap is getting old.”
I’ve given up on him. If this is the level of seriousness we can expect throughout the campaign, he won’t have a prayer against Hillary.
Folks, look at a calendar, will you?
Wednesday is September 5th.
Note that this is different from September 6th, as in “it is not on the same day.”
Fred will be on Leno’s show to milk the last of the freebie appearances he can make, and will declare the NEXT day. As in “he won’t be declaring his candidacy on the Leno show.”
Get it???
I think his official announcement will be an internet event. He is booked on Leno the night of his internet announcement.
Bush was on Leno - what’s the problem? Actually, Thompson probably has a lot of friends & contacts out there. As long as he remains true to conservative principle, I don’t care.
UPDATE: Campaign officials now say there will not be a 4:30 conference call for the media. Rather, the campaign will put out information for the press in a statement. Stay tuned for details later this afternoon.
LOL!!!!!
>> Get it???
Yes, sir. Got it, Sir.
FRed is scared to debate the other candidates.
Got it.
Completely.
I actually don’t think HillBillary has a chance.
You know for sure, she’s got more skeletons in her closet than a good med school, and more dirt under her rug than a pig farmer.
I’ve been a bit convinced for a while that it was her deadeye aim that took care of Vince Foster.
