At least part of the city has been destroyed. And it should never be rebuilt, again. You know who is calling for it to be rebuilt at any cost? The same idiots who didn't lift a finger to evacuate the city people like Mayor Ray Nagin, whose legacy will always be that photograph of an armada of school buses submerged in the big muddy.
Joining him are Sen. Barack Obama, former Sen. John Edwards and Sen. Hillary Clinton all of whom don't see any reason to limit the spending on rebuilding the underwater city. Good thing these folks weren't around in the days of Atlantis!
So far $6 billion has already been spent and that's just beginning if the politicians have their way. They are encouraging everybody to move back, put their lives at risk again and just let the American taxpayer worry about the cost.
It's irresponsible. It's reckless. It's the worst kind of pandering, waste and fraud.
Somebody's got to say it: New Orleans, the party's over! Your city is still sinking slowly but surely year after year. It will only get more difficult in the future to keep the floodwaters at bay. There are parts of your city that can be salvaged. But it makes no sense to try to reclaim parts of the city where even the residents and businesses never bothered to return.

Oh! But it’s for the children! sarc/
Any way to keep the French Quarter and Garden District and forget about the rest...? Sad, I loved my visits to NO—but I’m with Farah.
The other areas hit by Katrina rebuilt without all the pig squealing being done by the LA democrats. If the city is inept, let the state itself get in the game to help them.
Here come the same old charletans ready to give away everyone' money but their own. That solution took the braintrust of clinton, obama, edwards and nagin to resolve? Another stellar democratic solution.
Of course they are all waiting for Daddy Bush to unbuckle the federal cash belt. Well, my friends, take a seat and be patient!
It’s funny that the Lefties want all development along coastlines and river banks ended to preserve “the wetlands”, but we must preserve a city that is (and will always be) under sea level. In the end it will be cheaper to move any monuments or historic buildings to high ground, and evacuate whatever’s left of the city to “New New Orleans”.
FEMA needs to cut a deal with all of the local politicians and contractors: how much money will they need in their off-shore accounts before they allow some of the relief money to go to actual relief? The entire effort seems to be in their hands.
The French Quarter and the Garden District are above sea level. There is a crescent shaped area of land that both of those, along with downtown New Orleans, sit on. Hence the name “Crescent City.”
That’s why the Superdome never flooded.
Even building—or I guess “rebuilding”—N’Awlins the way Venice is w/ canals and gondolas wouldn’t work. See you ‘round New Orleans, it was nice knowing ya.
Turn most of that welfare sewer you call a city into a nice park and buffer zone.
Oh and get a job, too.
That is all.

Who knew that all those endless winters I spent shoveling myself out from under snow in New England were really the government’s fault. Does that mean that my father can bill the goverment for all the money he has to spend to plow the lots of his bakeries every winter. Who knew that we could have billed the government for the repairs after our pipes froze and burst that one Christmas. Wait, what about all the dry cleaning I had to pay for after a winter of trudging down Boylston St. in the snow in my wool coat? I mean, after all, it’s the government’s fault that New England winters suck so bad, right? (do I need to put the sarcasm tag there?)
Did Ray Ray Nagin write this headline? "Don't you go throwin' no money down no rat hole!" I don't say that as a racial slur, that's how Nagin really talks.
They ought to rebuild New Orleans in Vegas.
I think “NO” stands for New Orleans.
Don’ be talkin’ like that ‘bout me. My moms is probably still in the attic. Might be daid.- Ray Nagin (Imus show)
Don’t rebuild New Orleans. Give the land back to the delta.
