Why I Left My Beta Husband
MSN Lifestyle ^ | August 2007 | Amy Brayfield

A few years ago, my husband, Mark, and I were at one of those hip downtown restaurants sipping mojitos and nibbling on lime-spiked seviche when one of my bosses appeared from a cloud of Cuban-cigar smoke and patted my shoulder. When I introduced him to Mark, he naturally asked what he did for a living. We both froze.

"I do some freelancing," Mark said.

"He studied film at NYU," I said at the same time.

Mark looked at me and shrugged. "I stay home with our daughter," he said, as my colleague quietly balked.

"He makes it possible for me to do my job," I said, laughing. But inside, I was mortified. Technically, I had it all back then, including a gorgeous toddler and a cool job.

What I didn't have was a husband I felt proud of.

This woman will dump her second husband as soon as she gets tired of him, just like she dumped the first one. If she had stayed home after her child was born instead of going back to work, her first husband would have been forced to get a job. But she took away his incentive to find a job by going back to work. If she wants to be “the man” in the marriage, she can’t expect her husband to be the man as well.

More of an iceberg. That would make her the Titanic.

That being said, some people are married to saints, and some people are married to saint-makers. Most of us are a bit of both 8-)

That may be the best summation of the subject I've read to date!

Isn’t that what feminism is all about? To love yourself, to believe that you deserve certain things because you are a woman? I’m not a mental health expert but I wonder if you can be taught clinical narcisscism because I see it running rampant in our society.

Sounds like Miranda Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107614/

Thing is, those kids loved their daddy and she took them away from them.

Her new Neruda-translating, painting, going-to-the-park-with-her-daughter husband... what was he doing before she married him and he started staying home? Playing house-husband for someone else?

Your post may sound cocky but its true.

My brother is a good looking successful guy with a girlfriend of 5 years but he has no desire to marry. The only reason he can come up with is to have children but he really doesn't need a wife for that. Strange but true.

We have mutual friend who have been married or are married and they are all depressing.

One friends wife divorced him 'because she wasn't attracted to him anymore' took him to court and got custody of their son. He is a good looking guy who gained weight while going to school and working. He hit the gym, recorded the conversations between he and his wife and took her to court and got custody back. She wants him back but he laughs in her face.

Another friend is still married but he actually has to ask permission to do anything. He sounds severely oppressed every time I talk to him.

These are just two examples of good looking successful guys, I have others who have similar problems.

i have a sister in law who is decent looking but 34 years old and can't find a guy. She wants to settle down but no one is looking for her. Why? because a 34 year old woman set in her ways is not more attractive than a 27 year old who is not.

They way she writes suggests that she is still an immature little girl incapable of an adult relationship.

Mextrosexuals are not men.

As soon as she lands a new man, she’ll find something wrong with him.

Didn't read the entire article, did you? She writes that she has remarried and is deliriously happy...although it seems like Daddy is no longer in the little girl's life.

Either way this woman is a glowing POS.

I am not prepared to tell people how to live their lives. As long as they don’t break the law, then they pretty much get to do what they want.

Also, she’s far from representative of society.

As Dr. Johnson said about marrying a second time, “It is hope triumphing over experience.’

“Didn’t read the entire article, did you?”

Yes, I did read the article. I’ll rewrite my response for you. As soon as she lands another new man after husband number 2, then she’ll find something wrong with him.

Do you feel better now after your nitpicking?

Sheesh!
She left one stay-at-home dad and fell for another!
I see divorce in their future.
What a freaking nut job!

What about the first husband who wanted to be with his daughter, and now some other man is standing in his place? Do you think HE’S bothered by this?

No idea. I’ve seen reasonable people arrange their lives in a reasonable fashion in stranger circumstances.

Woody Allen once described this woman and the men she goes with quite well:

“They probably sit around on the floor with wine and cheese, and mispronounce allegorical and didacticism. “
