A Border Patrol chief at one of the nation's most dangerous Southwest border crossings says the agency's mission doesn't include apprehending illegal aliens or seizing narcotics perplexing front-line agents and angering a congressional critic of illegal immigration.
"I've said it before and I'll say it again," Carlos X. Carrillo, Border Patrol chief of Laredo, Texas, told guests at a town-hall meeting Thursday. "The Border Patrol's job is not to stop illegal immigrants. The Border Patrol's job is not to stop narcotics. ... The Border Patrol's mission is not to stop criminals.
"The Border Patrol's mission is to stop terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the country."
Law-enforcement agencies consider Laredo to be one of the Southwest's most dangerous border crossings. It is the sister city of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, which is controlled by one of that country's most ruthless drug-smuggling rings.
Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican, called for Mr. Carrillo's resignation Friday. He also questioned how the recently appointed official could tell the difference between an illegal alien and a terrorist.
"If the Border Patrol has developed a new technology that can distinguish between terrorists and other illegal border crossers without first catching them and checking them out, that is good news," said Mr. Tancredo, an outspoken critic of illegal immigration and a presidential candidate. "But if that is not the case, Mr. Carrillo's statements are extremely irresponsible and demoralizing to officers in the field."
T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council, a union representing 12,000 front-line agents, said he was baffled by the Laredo chief's statements.
"It is shocking that such a high-ranking official would make a statement that is so completely at odds with the law and the Border Patrol's mission,"

Mission The priority mission of the Border Patrol is preventing terrorists and terrorists weapons, including weapons of mass destruction, from entering the United States. Undaunted by scorching desert heat or freezing northern winters, they work tirelessly as vigilant protectors of our Nation's borders. While the Border Patrol has changed dramatically since its inception over 75 years ago, its primary mission remains unchanged: to detect and prevent the illegal entry of aliens into the United States.
Obviously, like most government bureaucrats, this bird hasn't got a clue about what he is supposed to be doing when he shows up for work. Geeeesh!

Why? There are plenty of border patrol agents of Hispanic descent in the Border Patrol.
A muslim can choose to follow the death cult. A “Latino” can’t choose his/her ancestors. There’s been many loyal Americans with Hispanic names/descent.
There’s not much similarity at all.
i wonder if he would have said this quote on september 10, 2001. my guess is no. this guy is a loon.
The Texas border has some of the most patriotic Americans you've ever met.
They bounced that new boss at the NHC for saying they needed updated equipment but this pendejo gets a free pass even thought the Mission Statement for the Border Patrol contains:
We steadfastly enforce the laws of the United States
while fostering our Nation’s economic security
through lawful international trade and travel.
Okay, since the Border Patrol has been "protecting" us from terrorists for only about the last five years, what has it been doing for the 70 years before that?
I agree. Our county attorney just put out a warning to all the employers in this area that he intends to take the new laws about employers hiring illegals very seriously and they better do the same.
He is an Hispanic whose ancestors came to this part of Arizona with Coronado when Coronado was exploring the west.
That was my first thought—someone put the fox in charge of the henhouse here—this pile of dung has no intention of enforcing the law per his duty, and he never did, and I would bet money that whoever put him there knew it—someone forgot to tell Ramos and Compean, that they were supposed to be just window dressing. This is a crime and a shame. What can be done to get rid of him?
I assume we can scrap the US Border Patrol Mission Statement:
Mission
UNITED STATES BORDER PATROL

WE VALUE:

We value ourselves, our community, and working together to solve issues of mutual concern.

He’s speaking English, which is an improvement. See other posts for related articles.
Let the games begin.
Listen up Carlos. Evidently you need to go back to Border Agent 101 and start over.
In case you didn’t know it, your job is to:
...to stop illegal immigrants...
...to stop narcotics...
...to stop criminals...
...to stop terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the country.
Just drop me a line anytime you need some help.
I am curious about a couple of things though. How are your agents supposed to know who is coming into the nation unless they apprehend and identify? And once you’ve done this, why wouldn’t you expel illegals from the nation?
Carlos, as Lucy would tell you if she were here, “You has some splainin to do!”
The Border Patrol's job is not to stop illegal immigrants.Naw, naw, naw! The BP's job is to roam the deserts for them, gather them up, and get them on the free ride to instant retirement, all paid for by the United Simpletons of America!
A conflict of conscience on the border / ...dilemma for Hispanic agents
May 15, 2000
Who they are, what they do a dilemma for Hispanic agents.
DOUGLAS - For some U.S. Border Patrol agents, it’s a source of pride. For others, it’s an inside joke. And for still others, it’s a dirty little secret. That’s the kind of tug-of-war that Hispanic agents, some of them naturalized U.S. citizens, face every day: a covert conflict between who they are and what they do. About a third of the 8,300 Border Patrol agents on the force are of Hispanic origin. That’s the highest percentage of any federal law-enforcement or civilian agency, said Rob Daniels, Border Patrol spokesman ...

They forgot to send that memo to a lot of people. This man should resign.
But I am afraid you have the guy's name wrong. It's Leo Carrillo. He used to ride with the Cisco Kid and their mission was to conduct Mexicans safely through the desert to Aztlán, making sure heartless gringos did not mistake them for terrorists.
¡Oh Pancho! ¡Oh Cisco! ¡Ay Chihuahua! ¿Cisco I teenk mebbee dees Carrillo he's a cousin of dat Boosh-guy González, no?
Any Border Patrol agent who has any sort of 'conflict' over whether his allegiance lies with illegal aliens or with U.S. citizens should have his butt summarily fired.
You just know there are potential illegal border jumpers who, after reading this man’s statement, quickened their packing.
