BAGHDAD - U.S. troops clashed with suspected Sunni insurgents holed up in a mosque north of Baghdad and launched an air-to-ground Hellfire missile into the structure. One American soldier was killed in the fighting, the military said Friday. The soldier was killed and another was wounded when the troops came under fire from the Honest Mohammed Mosque about 11 p.m. Thursday in Tarmiyah as they targeted about six insurgents who were believed sheltered inside, said Lt. Col. Michael Donnelly, a military spokesman for northern Iraq.
The U.S. forces then spotted gunmen on the roof and sent the Sunni mosque's preacher into the building to persuade those inside to come out after they refused calls on loudspeakers, Donnelly said.

Honest Mohammed
Truth in advertising?
We should only play the Deguello.
Honest Mohamed’s... say isn’t that the big screen dealer south of the city? LOL Doesn’t sound like the name of a holy house of respect does it.
Sorry to hear of the troop casualty. Every one is a very important loss.
It’s truly looking like we’re not pussy-footing around anymore. If we’re going into Mosques, then the terrorists better be worried. The virgin thing is going to be pretty shakey with all the demand soon to become a reality.
Why not just send in some pigs - that’ll drive out fellas and pick them off as they exit.
Used camel dealer.
Please show me one ime
ONE TIME
That the US had to stage a force in a “Holy place”
Our Holy places are just that however the Muslimes use them at their discretion for killing. Mosque needs to be renamed “Mask” A Farce
And they are not Militants, lets spell it correctly
TERRORISTS
About time......For too long they have been ALLOWED to hide like cowards, in so called holy places.
If you’re a member of a religion that has to label its founder “Honest,” you may have bought a lemon,spiritually-speaking.
Good for our guys! Mosques become perfectly legal targets when the enemy operates from them.
SAme thing happened at the Crazy Mohammed Used Car Lot down the street.
"It is absolutely outrageous and reprehensible for anyone to suggest attacks on holy sites, whether they are Muslim, Christian, Jewish or those of any other religion ... Any suggestion that the defense of the American homeland or the defense of American interests would ever justify attacking holy sites or religious sites is just simply an idea that goes against the length or breadth of US history"
State Department spokesman Tom Casey
And you can be well rest-assured that CAIR is watching this as well.
Where are all the FReepers who whined and were ready to throw Tancredo into the volcano in a futile attempt to appease these reprobates?
A few years ago, some guys that do a morning radio show ran ads for a used car dealership in Kabul, Afghanistan for "Taliban Motors", run by two guys named "Big Al" Quaeda and "Big Al" Jezerra. Very Funny!
"Hurry in to Taliban Motors, where we have almost 6 (whistle, BOOM!), make that, almost 5 good, clean, used cars!"
"Big Al" and "Big Al" later opened a boat dealership near Gitmo....
Absolutely!
Use it as a place of worship, it will be respected (which is MORE than I can say about muzzie treatment of other's holy sites!)
However, use it for military operations, it will (and should!) be targeted!

I’ve heard a lot of stories about the military backing off of these sites. Now I’m encouraged. The laws of war are actually quite reasonable when fairly applied. Case in point, terrorists aka unlawful combatants. It’s perfect legal to exterminate them with extreme prejudice!
Go get em guys!!!
Anytime, anyway, anywhere!
Well I doubt we took out the entire Mosque and we probably had the sign-off of muslem leaders in the area. The people of Iraq are turning in the terrorists, which is a very good thing. Our respect for the Muslim culture (although I don’t agree with it in a lot of instances) may have helped to bring us to this situation. The people are tired of the rediculous disregard for life shown by the terrorists. Due to some of our restraint, now the terrorists are clearly in the minds of at least some of the Iraqis the bad guys.
