OAKLAND -- The head of Your Black Muslim Bakery, already accused of kidnapping and torturing a woman, is facing new charges in an alleged real-estate scam, court records show.
Yusuf Bey IV, 21, was charged in Alameda County Superior Court with forgery, grand theft, filing false documents, obtaining money under false pretenses, possession of a forged driver's license and identity theft.
Bey, his brother Joshua Bey, 19, and Tamon Halfin, 20, were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and torturing a woman three months ago in East Oakland. They were taken into custody a day after the Aug. 2 shotgun slaying of Oakland Post Editor Chauncey Bailey at 14th and Alice streets in the city's downtown.
A handyman at the bakery, Devaughndre Broussard, 19, has been accused of shooting the journalist, who was investigating the company's bankruptcy filing. Broussard is due back in court Thursday.
The Bey brothers and Halfin are to return to court Wednesday in connection with the May 17 kidnapping of a woman who was pulled over in a car outfitted with emergency lights, beaten, stabbed and told she would be tortured with a hot curling iron if she didn't reveal where a man kept money, authorities said.
Bey IV is the son of bakery founder Yusuf Bey, who died of colon cancer in 2003 while awaiting charges of raping a minor.
On June 7, 2006, Bey IV used the fictitious name of Yasir Human to buy property at 2514 61st Ave. in East Oakland, Alameda County district attorney's investigator Philip Dito wrote in a statement that outlined grounds for his arrest.
Using that fake name, Bey secured two deeds of trust from CIT Group, one for $440,000 and another for $110,000, . . .
